i have the Sold Out Software( (
http://www.mastertronic.com/) ) DVD version of Thief : The Dark Project and i get the Direct3D error, but when i put in the texture fix .exe, it won't detect the DVD as a CD and won't let me proceed. I checked and it apparently installs in a CD bypass method of putting all the information on the HD and changing the .cfg to reference that as if it was the CD, but the texture fix won't notice this. is there any way to get past this or am i pretty much just screwed?

nope, no luck, this time is first gives me a warning saying
DirectX Version 6 or higher not installed.
3D graphics acceleration will be unavailable.
Graphic performance may be slow.
You will only be able to play Thief in windowed mode.
Graphics quality may be poor if your desktop color palette is set to 256 colors or fewer.
we strongly recommend installing DirectX version 6 or higher to enable fullscreen gaphics support.
Continue anyway? Yes/No
i click yes, and then it gives me the "please Insert CD" message

did you edit your original .exe yourself or download the pre-patched version (Which will contain the CD protection most probably)?
If you did the latter, try the first (using the Hex editor). I have Thief 1/2 from Cenega - without CD protection - simmilar to your situation, and editing the file manually worked for me.

*edit* nevermind, the DDfix does work, i was just too sleep deprived to realize i had to go to the website and download the ACTUAL DDfix and not the .exe itself listed in the forum post
