his daughter and not a random stranger on the internet. Let's imagine that this wasn't his daughter and it was someone else who read her post on facebook, went over to her home, took her laptop and destroyed it. If that happened then they would be faced with criminal prosecution.

Sounds to me like too much emphasis is being placed on whether she did something wrong or not. There's too much ambiguity and semantic heavy-petting of the word "privacy" going on. Isn't the main issue the method of punishment used? If a parent of mine filmed themselves shooting a computer and then uploading it, I'd probably disregard their judgement outright in future. Sure, I'd perhaps tone down anything which might upset them in future, but because I was worried about their emotional stability, not out of respect.

It was. There just wasn't a whole lot of disagreement on that part.
