@Fidcal
You can do it, just
wait till the guy with the hat goes in the alley next to the door. He does that when you move around a bit and as far as I know he only does it once.
Thanks - I've gone beyond that now but I might try on the way back.
SPOILLER MISSION 2:
I did the poison thing differently this time. I hid under the table after swapping the poisons then I could grab the diary as soon as the villain collapsed in front of me. Once the others had dashed off I had a few seconds before the building shut down so I got out the window. Too easy when you know how. On the way back along the ledge I found a broken window that wouldn't shut. I might go back inside after all and get as much loot as possible.
AFAIK I've not caused any alerts so far this level. :)

Well, crap, my dumpster thing in Miss1 didn't work the second time. I also only KO'd one guard (that first one that everyone is struggling with). No other alerts or alarms that I know of. Ran out the door immediately after the explosion and no shots were fired, so I assume they didn't see me. Still didn't get either Ghost or No Alarms. I have a feeling it's related to the explosion. Not sure what to do here...
It occurs to me that I throw a few bodies off of that platform to distract the rats from the wheel for the door toward the end. The rats eat them - wonder if that counts, even though they're clearly dead...Any success stories would be appreciated. I don't think it's possible to play this any cleaner than I did.

Yeah, it's more difficult because it's not always clear whether one has failed an alert while playing. I just replayed level 3 (I think it is - the cathouse one) where one has to assassinate so don't know if they count. First time I played this level I (turned on steam valve and broiled one of 'em to death) but don't know if that counted because I killed loads of others. This time I didn't have the key yet so I (possessed a fish and got to him but there were alerts as I sleep-darted him and his whore. Then I dropped him in the water and he drowned. The other one I got in by a balcony with similar results. Nobody else knew about those murders that I could see. I've only just returned to Sam to boat back so don't know yet if I successfully ghosted. I doubt it.

The guy doing these videos is not ghosting. He's KOing everyone.

I've managed to get the ghosting (or whatever it's called) achievement for the first level with 100% loot on the hardest difficulty level (though I don't know if difficulty makes a difference outside of combat). I've not managed it with less than three knockouts, which annoys me, but I really can't see how it would be possible to manage it in fewer. Distracting guards by throwing something is the only way left I can think of, but it doesn't seem in the spirit of ghosting.
KO's:
1: The first guard you pass who's looking directly at the 180° guard (who you'll want to pickpocket). I've tried everything here including sneaking behind the third guard who patrols back and forth, and dashing for the table to the side by sprinting and sliding. He spots you if you move past his right side (though I've never been spotted to his left), which is the side the 180° guard is. Any jumps from the ledge above seem to be too far. It's possible that one of these methods might just require a large amount of luck, but I've given up for now.
2&3: The two guards in the explosion room. I've tried hiding in the trashcan and elsewhere in that room but they see you straight away (and through the closed metal lid somehow).
I think you could get the ghosting achievement with only KO's 2&3, but not 100% loot.
For those having trouble with ghosting the explosion: Get into the explosion room via the high-up pipe network on the right of the previous room - this leaves the large metal door shut and gives you less chance of being spotted, knock out the two guards in the room, hide close to the explosion and then sprint and slide (SHIFT to sprint, C to slide whilst sprinting) straight into the water. You also need to be wary of the guards watching the staircase who sometimes see you sprinting out.
It's cheating a little, but you can turn on the guard alert icons if you want to test whether a method lets the guards spot you or not - as far as I could tell the explosion room guards *always* spot you if they're awake. The rat room doesn't matter for ghosting unless I was very lucky.

The way I ghosted the explosion was by turning around and jumping back up into the pipes, the guards came running through, eventually turned around and left and I closed the door behind them.

I'm going back to replay levels to ghost them.
For the High Overseer mission, I figured out a blink path basically from the start all the way to the "Let's have a drink" room, with just a few places over foot like at the loading zone. The tops of lamp posts play an important role. The trickiest one to find was getting to the roof over the 2nd Wall of Light; there's just one sliver place I could find on the right-hand side. And once you're inside the compound of course it's easy to travel by light shades. Annoying you have to take out a guard on the street to fulfill an objective (the guard of the captive officer), but I don't count anything required by an objective as a bust. After the assassination it's easy to get back out of the window and wind around to the door to the back.
It's a nice little first assassination mission, not too hard to ghost it, but enough guards you still have to pay attention along the way ... especially for the few places you have to go a bit on the ground. I'll have to work out a way to do it without blinking, but that's for another time. Now I'm trying to at least get each mission ghosted using all the powers.

I'm not going to spoiler tag this whole post so if you haven't played Mission 2/Overseer Campbell yet SKIP THIS POST IT CONTAINS SPOILERS.
How the fuck are you supposed to Ghost this level without killing Campbell? I put him in the interrogation chair and brand him. Note that you cannot move him after that because he's locked in the chair. Unless I've KO'd the guards outside (which I guess I should do but I'm trying to play with as few KO's as possible), they're going to walk in, see Campbell, and set off an alarm.
Is the key to KO the two guards patrolling through that room?

If you KO those guards, the others nearby will notice they're missing and check their routes, discovering Campbell. You can try rewiring the alarm in that corridor in advance (if that's possible, not sure), but then the guards will still be alerted locally when they find Campbell.
