Dissapointed by the Cradle... - by guildmaster

Some of us don't scare! We want to be scared, yes, but nothing's doing it for us, apart from the opposite sex! :laff:
When i heard that door banging, i was in that room like a rocket! I was like, "Come on then, where are you?" That's me for you. The Cradle had it's horrors, yes, but that was me! :sly:

Could that have something to do with the type of FMs you've created? I mean you're used to dealing with the undead/spooky situations, so of course they wouldn't be much of a scare factor anymore, right? Just a thought.
Personally, the Cradle scared me witless; but I persevered (translation: blasted through the damn thing!). ;) I'm in the middle of 'Rocksburg 2' right now & Tunnel 21 has me closing my eyes and whimpering - but I'm still determined to beat this thing, only I won't blast through this one (I shall conquer my fears by facing them - - yeah - right!). Deja Vu. I am such a wuss. :o

Yes, it could've been so much better if the designers focused more on the history of the asylum and its patiens (putting more of the doctor's logs etc) and got rid entirely of undead loonies, so we could explore the depressing (and empty) hallways drenched in chilling ambient sounds, all the while expecting something terrible to happen, like meeting the hag herself at the end. And somehow ghostgirl showing so explicitely and sending me on errands ruined the immersion for me. I would've preferred her to be more subtle, like communicating only by knocking like proper poltergeist. But this is too much nitpicking, as it is the Cradle is one of the greatest levels in any game, just it could have been better.
To T-smith: My fear of graveyards and death is the reason why bonehoard was so scary for me.

I was one of the lucky few who got the game on the date of release and had absolutely no idea about anything in it.
The cradle not only scared me but actually made me depressed the rest of the day. I couldn't stop thinking about it.
Return to the Cathedral didn't really scare me when I played. Neither did the bonehoard...
The thing is Insane Asylums really really do something to my brain and freak me out. So that didn't help.
Did you see the thing run behind the desk upon entering White Hall?
That made my heart stop.
And made me swear and throw a flashbomb in the general direction.

Thanks, RT. I'd conveniently put that little bit out of my mind. I'll be having nightmares tonight. Much obliged.

Most people don't notice the puppet at the far end when you first enter the Inner Cradle, but it is pretty damn freaky.
For those that haven't seen, right when the main lobby of the inner cradle first comes into view, look at the far end, past the front desk. It's only there the very first time you walk into the main lobby.
EDIT: Just saw poor Dia's post :D

Right! As soon as i see that thing again i'm going to jump over to the other side and stab it this time around, before it gets the chance to get out of the door. If that's the thing i think you mean. I recall walking up to some desk or other and seeing a dark shadow walking to the left, through a door. Was that the thing? Hey, i'll take a screeny for you of this beasty!

Nope. The puppet at the far end when you first come in runs off with extreme speed as soon as you enter the lobby.

'k; you do that sluggs! Let me know how it turns out (translation: you're on your own, buddy!).
I'll chip in for flowers for the dear lad. ;)

I guess i'm stuffed then. If it runs too quickly, i'll never catch it! Obviously i never saw it when i first played through the Cradle! :grr: Could do with a speed potion here. I'm still going to try and get it tho'. I'll try and get a screeny too.
