Dissapointed by the Cradle... - by guildmaster

I got the shivers when Garrett said,
"This looks like a place of bad dreams."

Correct, it was the occupant of Cell #9 who sat there. And I didn't really notice any of the other woman in the Cradle having a fascination with burning... unless you count Lauryl.
"Now, do this and this and this...."
I swear, she has to be the daughter of Brother Murus. Garrett really should have asked.
I think that it is up to interpretation who sits in the chair. To me, it made more sense that patient no. 1 sat there, not acting but watching.

Normally I'd agree with you, but null actually posted a bit about the Cradle, and mentioned that it was no.9, not King No One :P

Hmm, playing through some of the Cradle again, I think King No One's laugh should be more like a hammer haunt's laugh. Unfortunately I've never heard a haunt in the "flesh" as it were, but I have heard the occasional sound file

Heya, I just finished playing through the cradle for the first time ever :).
I was scared right from the start. Those knocking sounds seemed to always come from right around the corner (I didn't know they were coming from above, in the attic, and they sounded like heavy footsteps to me). So I crouched through most of the outer cradle, always terrified that something horrible would finally come into view. But nothing ever did, which I suppose was what made it so scary. And then I got to the attic... Embarrassing how long it took me to actually open the door and click on the painting...
When I got to the inner cradle, I was terrified when I saw a puppet's spastic shadow projected on a wall in the distance. And then I got to the white ward. As I was lockpicking one of the cell doors, a puppet came out of nowhere and started beating on me, which nearly made me shit my pants. I actually had to stop playing for a while there :P. Unfortunately, when I realized that they make the lights flicker around them, it became too easy to avoid them. I never even tried to hit them, just stealthed past them all. And the staff was not frightening at all, so the worst was over at that point :P.
Anyway, absolutely brilliant level design. I never imagined a video game could actually frighten me :P. It was also really fun to read about the patients and inspect their cells, though I have a feeling from reading this thread that I missed out on a lot of info.

The lights going weird can sometimes make it a bit of a givaway... now Im thankful that the first time I did it I had absolutely no idea the lights did that when patients got too close.

The lights going on and off do that even when a nearby puppet is dead. Their bodies dont dissolve or whatever. I remember my first encounter with one. My exact words were: OH MY GOD WHAT THE F*CK!!!???
I was unlucky enough to not know that they were so strong, so I started hitting it with my dagger.
It kicked my ass.

I didn't think those puppets could be killed!

They're very killable.
Depending on the difficulty. As far as I know, enough of anything on the 3 lower difficulties will put them out. But I believe on Expert, the only thing that can kill the Puppets is Holy Water. Anything else, and when you get too close they'll jump up and bite your face off.

I wouldn't go as far as biting off your face, since they're wearing those head cages! Maybe they'll bite your ankles instead?
