Dissapointed by the Cradle... - by guildmaster

:laff: READ THE MANUAL!
But that's stupid then...I can't be screwed aiming a fire arrow on the run from a puppet to account for trajectory, flight speed etc...I just wanna blow the sucker up! I payed good money for these arrows...(well, actually, I didn't. Didn't buy a single fire or gas arrow throughout. Wish I did...)

Gas arrows are some incredibly useful things. Can take 2 out in one shot if you aim right.

I do enjoy gas arrows/bombs. :thumb:
As for the Cradle, the first time I played it, I was utterly terrified. I didn't even know there was undead! When the lights first began to flicker, I turned around wildly and ran. . . straight into a puppet. And then, i tried hitting it with my blackjack. I was too scared to switch weapons.
The second time through, still scary, but now I'm more carefull. Now I get to experiment.
exploding mines are terrible fun.
Also, I didn't know that
the puppets' bodies stayed after being effectively 'killed'.
So I kept stabbing it over and over again.
Yes, not turning into dust was quite frightening, seeing as undead rise again usually. And the way the lights always flicker around it even after its dead makes you unsure
The Cradle scared me almost to traumatic levels, or maybe it did cause me trauma? Either way, I had to write something inspired from the level.(

But more onto topic, I went into this level almost oblivious to what other players experience was of it, only the ambiguous statements made about it by a friend.
'Hehe, just wait till you get to the Cradle. *cackles*' - Chade
So the whole time i'm sneaking around the outer cradle my imagination is going ballistic in fear. Thinking 'what was that sound! Just ambience!? What was that? Is there anything around here!? AHHHH! *escape key and asthma medication*'
I must've spent the better half of an hour just sneaking around extremely slowly in the outer cradle, the whole time being the most frightened I can remember ever been. And then I hear the banging...
I'm amazed at how some of you were able to figure out that the lights flickered whenever there were puppets nearby. I never managed to get past just how disturbing it was to see those things twitching violently with those head and hand cages on in the flickering light. Wow, I must be such a wimp.
But yeah, the Cradle was extremely scary for me. But it think it's a very different type of 'scary.' I mean in THC and other previous scary levels there's undead and all and it's a chaotic type of fear. But in the Cradle it's a very subtle, depressing type of fear, I believe.
That's just me anyway.

I did (saw the puppet, I mean) and nearly wet my pants. I was already all keyed up just from the atmosphere that pervades the Cradle I would have jumped if a pin had dropped. :o

Oh yeah, my precise reaction when I saw that was saying "First half of the level was empty... now, s**t starts rollin'!"
I closed the game and didn't play it for a week just 5 minutes after saying that.
Why? I was talking with my brother and didn't notice that a puppet saw me. I turned to my screen only to see a screaming zombie attempting to gut me. I felt cold...

The puppet show above was fun to get rid of, I
set two explosive mines near the doorway and made sure the thing saw me. It came running around and BOOM! Hmmm, maybe that was another one, but I'm pretty sure it was that one.
It was a good touch to have it run past reception like that, but from my experience hardly anybody goes straight up to the desk. I know that I always edged around to the left and up the stairs. The puppet up there never sees you so you can prepare yourself to kill it. :)
