Sorry to put some fuel on the fire, but I have a question... Was it the first time that woman bought a coffee from a McDonald (which means maybe she wasn't aware the coffee was hot)? Also, when she spilled the coffee, I presume it went on her clothes, did she tried to remove her clothes or did she just panic and waited for the skin to burn?

Maybe she wasn't wearing her super absobant panty liner that day.

Do you seriously believe the hot coffee hit her clothes and then thought "perhaps I'll stay here amongst the fibres of her dress so she has time to remove it and I won't flow on and scald her skin" :erm:

My "what" means that unless she was wearing lycra-lined stripper clothes that tear off instantly, what the fuck are you talking about? There's no way she could avoid her skin being burned as soon as the scalding liquid hit her clothing. Hot coffee isn't fire.

Ah, yes, hot coffee. That word leads to so many lawsuits. ;)

It takes time for skin to burn to third degree, even with boiling water. If you pour some boiling water directly on your skin, as the skin does not absorb water, if you wipe it off quickly you won't have third degree burns. If you pour boiling water on your clothes, your clothes will absorb the liquid which means if you don't remove them quickly your skin will be in contact with the heat long enough for deep burns.
Someone once poured boiling soup on me, and I didn't have third degree burns. Sure, people laughed because I ended up in my underwear, but I'd rather see people laugh than burn myself. I guess I'm weird...
