A corporation gets warned not to do something as it's dangerous. It goes ahead and does it anyway. It will continue to do so until someone punishes it in a meaningful way.
Because this time there was an element of fault on the part of the person who was hurt does not remove the basic need to change the behaviour of the offending party. It's also just a plain barmy position to argue that one daft act gives another party carte blanche to act negligiently and go unpunished. This is all reflected in the law - the % of fault of each party is worked out and the damages awarded are reduced accordingly.

What's interesting is that according to your link the punitive damages were only requested after McD's offered the initial, admittedly paltry, sum. That suggests to me that this lady and her family recognised that burning yourself by putting fresh coffee between your legs and then taking the lid off is pretty much an unfortunate accident. That some people should equate this with lacking common sense in the first place seems natural, no? Do you really do this? Seriously. I bet you do.

You and I don't see eye to eye on lots of stuff (I still think you're fat by the way, just not AS fat, but well done on getting this far) but I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and just assume that in the morass of posts you've misread me somehow and that you aren't in fact as incredibly arrogant, reactionary and misguided as you seem.
I'm not supporting this "That greedy cunt shouldn't have sued" opinion at all. Heck, I think her and her family were outright polite and restrained in the initial stages of the case, and in all honesty the payout wasn't even that much if you take the standpoint that it is was ALL McD's fault. I'm just supporting the opinion that it's common sense to NOT put hot coffee in your lap and you seem to be arguing against that for some idiotic (attention seeking? wouldn't be the first for you Mr potty-mouth) reason.
