Not all church-goers were Hammerites as we've seen them. (I'd like to see these females with swords dressed in red ouside St. Edgars, to see that they aren't thugs. SCREENSHOT, please.) :D
The Fort Ironwood Hammerites have Ramirez and Farkus in their catacombs, and there is the fight over Alfred Hurley's body--A man whom the Hammers consider one of their faithful, who in fact was also pagan.
Quote:

Oh Alfred...why, why? (Sobs) Why couldn't it have been me who died? How can I go on without my dearest brother?
m14v06b
(Hushed tones) I won't tell them, Alfred. The Hammerites will never know your secret, and you'll get a proper burial, too. That will be my final gift to you.
m14v06c
Oh, why is it taking so long? Haven't they destroyed all the zombies yet? I can't go on much longer. (Crying).
m14v06d
Do you remember, brother dear, when we were just children? The songs we'd sing...the games we'd play? You'd pretend to be the boogie man, or I'd be the old gray lady come to take your skin...such...(sobs) good times....
m14v06e
(Hushed tones) I know in your heart you were never truly...(very quietly) Pagan. (Resuming previous tones) How could you be? And I've told the Hammerites you died trying to help a child out of collapsing building.
"Alfred Hurley Beloved brother of Alyssa, a devout citizen and pious woman who dost attend services most regular. May the Builder find a place in his House for him."
Quote:
OQGraveyardConv_001000, m14c0201:
Hast Brother Oliver arrived at a solution?
OQGraveyardConv_002000, m14c0202:
Nay, and meanwhile, the room doest become more rank by the hour.
OQGraveyardConv_003000, m14c0203:
'Tis true. We must bury his body soon, else the woman and all of us will be consumed by noxious vapors. But, what choice have we, Brother Rivet? The undead return so quickly after we smite them....
OQGraveyardConv_004000, m14c0204:
Thou speakest aright...the burial canst not proceed 'til we discover what hast caused them to return so often.
OQGraveyardConv_005000, m14c0205:
And perhaps I should have spoken before, but... I swore I didst see a dark figure disappear from the graveyard as I approached. But, when I checked the spot...'twas only a tangle of briars....
OQGraveyardConv_006000, m14c0206:
Thou must inform Brother Oliver...thou hast had a vision of Pagan treachery to come.
OQGraveyardConv_007000, m14c0207:
I need no vision to remind me of their evil, but if the Builder hast seen fit to send me one....
OQGraveyardConv_008000, m14c0208:
We thank the Builder for all His gifts.
If Alyssa gets killed:
"Alyssa Hurley
Here lies a pious woman, killed most wrongly in the prime of life. May the Builder welcome her into the House he hast built."
Maybe the painting is of a great financial contributor? Attending services doesn't make one a hammer-wielding Hammerite or nun, but the question is always there. Are they all celibate, or what?

Given the monastic/industrious nature of the Hammerite priesthood, I'd suggest they were. Which is just another reason why some would have flocked to the Mechanist banner - I mean, there's
subtext in the conversation between the male and female Mechanist in Eavesdropping.

:D
One of the derived aspects of the Knights Templar that was applied strictly.

Which conversation are we talking about?

I hope I'm not being too presumptuous:
mc10603A: (Frustrated) A pox upon it! Never shall I finish my design. The springs and gears conspire to confound me.
mc40603B: Calm, Friend, calm…. On the morrow let me come by thy workbench and help thee untangle things.
mc10603C: (Humble) I--I would be most grateful. Couldst thou help?
mc40603D: Tis nothing. Think on it as the copper and tin mingle to make the stronger bronze, so doest we each mingle and flow together in Karras's forge to make stronger, as well.
mc10603E: (Impressed) Thou art wise.
mc40603F: Tis Karras who is truly wise. His bounty, and the machines we construct, shall help all of humanity in the coming times, and all shall know his wisdom.
mc10603G: I will be glad to have this wretched task behind me that I may move to a more profitable position.

subtext there if you want to see it, but then it could be like a child to a Master, impressed at there skillful actions... or don't we have that kind of relationship between people this days?
jtr7 on 17/3/2009 at 00:39
Subtext means beneath the surface text. It obviously is directly about the project and needing assistance. Indirectly it's full of double-entendre if you look.
Meisterdieb on 17/3/2009 at 02:15
Well, with a lot of good will (or should I say naughty thoughts) I could make the last part into something "different".
We are talking about sexual subtext here, or are my thoughts just too dirty :cheeky:
But maybe one would have to hear the conversation as they probably convey a lot more emotion or connotations by voice than simple transcription.
I only yhave the German version and I honestly don't find any subtext in the written or spoken dialogue..
(@jtr7: what's with the presumptuous bit?)
jtr7 on 17/3/2009 at 03:43
Yes, sexual subtext. I figured the translated versions wouldn't convey it. I won't be so crass as to describe it line-by-line.:ebil:
Presumptuous...I was hoping I wasn't presuming to know what Sola' was talking about as I answered for him.:)

Ah, but my point is really that the problem with reading between the lines is sometimes there is nothing there to read. Sometimes what you think is there, is something completely different. I bet if the guy turned around and made a clear pass at her, she might hit him around the head with her mace.. that does happen...
of course, it COULD be there, or it could not ^_^
