Why?
I've done it, so I know how you get ripped off from this little "deal"...
1. A licensing restriction is put on the game. A F'N LICENSING RESTRICTION!!! I thought EA was being a bunch of douchbags for doing that, but now other companies are doing it!? In case you don't know, a licensing restriction makes you activate your new PC game online, thus only letting you install it on 3 or 4 computers. Then it can never be installed again. BULLSHIT!! WHY DID THEY INVENT THAT!? I know they hate piracy, but it's unfair to all us other PC Gamers! Whoever invented that deserves to rot in Hell. Again, BULLSHIT!!
2. They tampered with the Thief.exe to add copy protection to it. What's the big deal, you say? Because the EXE is now encrypted in so much shit, it's now IMPOSSIBLE to install the DDFIX hack which is required to play the game on modern systems. NOW THAT'S JUST CRUEL!! Apparently, the company that made the downloadable version of Thief Gold hated piracy so much that they put it before the customer's satisfaction, WHICH SHOULD ALWAYS COME FIRST!!
I say again: DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIEF GOLD FROM GAMESTOP OR ANY OTHER DIRECT2DRIVE SERVICE. THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF! If you want Thief Gold, buy it from Amazon or Ebay. It may cost a bit more, but at least you get a good deal instead of this f'n shit. I bought Thief Collection from Amazon, which includes all 3 original games, so it shouldn't be hard for you either...
EDIT (TO MODERATORS):
I know I went out of my league with this post, but I'm just trying to warn people wanting to buy the game of this scam. But if you don't think it's appropriate, you may edit or delete it.

Thanks for the warning. I've already got all three of the games on physical disks which cannot be remotely shredded by a third-party. You just spelled out why I stopped buying games years ago.

I've bought Thief 1 and 2 both in the same DVD (double face) from amazon.com, and all works fine! X'D Maybe you had to try there. I've also released them a satisfaction comment there. The case is not the best (just the box in plastic, without any booklet, nor precious graphic), but for the rest it's a good purchase :) But I don't know if they have the Gold version too.

I would be interested to know if they fixed the long-standing issues with Thief 1/Gold. For example, if you enter a game, change video settings, re-enter the game, and try to change video modes again, the game will crash.
There are also the issues with newer graphics cards. It seems like if they are going to wrap the thing with draconion DRM, they should be able to fix the issues with the original version.

This is already known SpiDoL. There was a discussion about this topic in an existing thread.:erg: I also don't think you need capital letters in the name of the thread.:o
Though I will say that this sort of topic should be added to the FAQ of this forum.

It should already be in the FAQ... I put it there. I don't mind increasing awareness, either. But I would like to know... SpiDoL, have you had any luck playing FMs with the EB version?
SpiDoL on 30/4/2009 at 18:27
@Digital Nightfall:
Don't know. I stopped bothering with the downloaded copy a LONG time ago.

Macha, notice I commented out that word you used - the games are so old and cheap so there is no reason to look for non-legit versions, IMHO, I suggest you edit your post...
