I'll confess, I switched the "EAX Advanced HD" and "EAX Multiple Environments (Reverb)" on during the first level... then switched them right off about 45 seconds later. I thought they were awful.
Now I have an SB Audigy2, so I'm pretty confident it wasn't the soundcard's fault. But with those two options on, suddenly everything sounded like it was in a huge reverberating cathedral. Here I am in a tavern, and the humming of the bartender echoed so loudly, it sounded like the walls, floor and ceiling were all made of metal.
What am I missing? If that's the "wonder" of EAX, why would anyone want it?

Hi
It may be your driver installation or it could simply be your sensative ears lol. After all these years of T2 etc, T3 has much better use of EAX, and it could be just that.

I like it. It is fairly well done. Walking along street, and suddenly entering a tunnel will have the area in the tunnel reverb. Not perfect though, like you said.

With the audigy 2 zs, you could try it with CMSS 3D turned off and audio effects turned off in the sound card's EAX control panel. If everything is turned on in the sound card and game options, then I get too much reverb which is why I am suggesting this. If I turn off EAX in the game options but use CMSS, then the CMSS compensates to get EAX anyway, so might as well use the designed game options instead. With everything turned off, the left and right audio is more noticible with less center channel and reverb, so you might end up wanting some EAX after all.

Yeah something screwed up for you. EAX makes the game sound awesome. It's known that the 3D sound support in Thief 2 can get wierd on newer systems.

yeap, it sounds better for me using EAX. I am using an Audigy 2ZS, and as someone said here, it is better to have the sound effects and CMSS turned off in the card settings. I get no sound from Garret (footsteps, voice) when those settings are turned on, even using the correct speakers settings.
