Never, ever quicksave. I don't even know which button it's set to! I save in the regular slots very, very often because of game bugs, like flying off of ropes, getting stuck somewhere, etc. but also because I hate doing the same thing over and over again. Plus, I need to have multiple saves throughout missions in case I want to go back in and check out something to make sure I'm right before I post an answer to a question on the forum.

I am cursed. I am too much bound with perfection. I quicksave nearly everywhere. I should seriously stop doing it, but you know - leaving habbits is hard. So i guess next time i play A night In Rocksbourg, i'll live without saves...
And ofcourse there is the engine matter. Getting stuck in the middle of a long mission might be rather frustrating.
I used to do that as well, in my first runs... I wanted EVERY single piece of loot, I blackjacked EVERY single guard, I used to put the whole map to sleep before making my escape with a Santa Claus-sized bag of loot.
Because I *had* to buy all the gear I could for the next mission, in order to use it in many satisfactory ways. But then, I started to try to play the missions "realistically", and the idea of ghosting a map was just too appealing. Even more so, ghosting it "fairly" - that is, accepting every mistake I make, in order to enjoy even more when I finally succeed in sweeping the map completely unnoticed like a breeze of wind. Which of course doesn't happen often, me being a decent player but nothing to write poems about.
Still, sometimes I occasionally enjoy playing a map at just Hard difficulty, blackjacking/stabbing people at my leisure.

I quicksave every few minutes but only quickload when I die generally, unless I'm ghosting. I save to a usually only at the end of a gaming session. If you want a mission that actually enforces Iron Man, try playing my FM The Summit on Everest (Expert).

I wasn't enjoying FMs as I used to, but I couldn't put my finger on why - until reading this thread, that is. I had been quick-saving/loading way too much, which took away the suspense, because I knew I could always reload if I messed up.
After stumbling upon this thread, I decided to stop quick-saving, except at the very beginning and before quitting (and also before testing something out of the ordinary (like climbing out of the FM)). Yesterday I had some time to spare (or that's what I told myself, anyway) and so I loaded one of the many unplayed FMs on my list and played it the way I had promised myself, and the suspense was back :D Every decision and every step felt important (okay, not every step, but almost), because I now had to face the consequences of a mistake - or face a replay of the last fifteen minutes, which works as a very good incentive not to make the mistake in the first place.
Yes, I still save every 15 minutes as a guard against irrevocable events, but the next time I play I might try doing it Iron Man-style, which feels like it could add even more to the suspense.

I appreciate the reason why that makes it more fun for you, but I just don't have the time unfortunately to play that way. My play time is very limited (a few missions a month), since I apply most of my "Thief time" to Dromed. I'd rather play one more mission a month or whatever it would amount to in the time saved.

I always quicksave. I have a lot of uni work to get along with, plus if i didn't quicksave and have to go back to a hardsave that was a good 20 mins+ earlier in a level my patience would break. People have different frustration points, so different strokes for different folks i guess.

Is there a reason this thread tries to distinguish between quicksave and hardsave while talking about any save taken during gameplay?
(Not talking about saving at the beginning/ending of each mission so one can play the mission without first going through the previous ones, or saving the game whenever real life is demanding a break from the game)
'cause I don't see any difference there... just that quicksaving is - as the name suggests- a lot quicker than having to go through the menues for the normal save slots.
That said, I (quick)save a lot just because Thief seems to freeze/ crash on me a lot - and quite nastily it usually does so right before I want to do a hard save.
But I also don't usually use those saves during normal play (just for when the game crashes).
I usually also do a quicksave whenever I try to do any action that tends to be buggy within the game - like rope jumping and some mantling where either the game engine or some design oversight has Garrett act like a clumsy fool (you know those ledges where you have to stand exactly, absolutely exactly on a certain spot otherwise you'll end up jumping on the spot  )

The obvious answer is that quicksaving doesn't kill immersion as much as a hard save, which is why I use it far more often. I usually quicksave every few minutes or after accomplishing something minor, and will do a hardsave after completing larger parts of the mission, maybe every half hour or so.
Usually in the earlier parts of the level, I forget to save at all because I'm getting so caught up in checking out the surroundings, objectives, AI or whatever else is around.
