So I'm finally breaking down and, instead of sinking anymore money into PC gaming, only then to have to contend with fucking internet authorizations and compatibility issues and availability and instantly outdated hardware and blah blah blah, I'm buying an XBox 360.
If your hardware is instantly outdated you're doing something
horribly wrong. This PC has lasted me for well over 6 years with only minor updates, and I think I can last well into 2011 (plan to upgrade to LGA1155/2011). If you want to get a 360 that's your decision but don't give lame excuses about how PC gaming is so tiresome, and the hardware industry is conspiring to make your gear feel worthless, because it's bullshit, plain and simple.
Also, from your posts I can't exactly gather that you've been an especially enthusiastic PC gamer, in fact I'm surprised you don't have a console already. Oh yeah, you want to sink money into something? How about having to pay a
monthly fee or goddamn Xbox Live! on top of your ISP bill, that's money wasted right there. In fact it'll probably go straight into Microsoft's pot for killing PC gaming by way of GFWL and crap.
Traitor! :nono:
Anyway, any X360 exclusive games you have in mind which you want to play? Or did you just cave in to peer pressure? ;)

Queue, have you thought about PS3 instead of 360? Isn't there a proper kb/mouse for PS3?
EvaUnit02 on 2/10/2010 at 10:52
Aside from UT3, PS3 is just as bust as 360. Games have to be coded specifically to support a device, eg mouse. True, developers on PS3 would have the freedom to code it in, unlike with MS where games with such support would likely fail certification due to politics.
They simple won't because they that mouse support would put people on an unfair playing field in Vs. MP (which is true). Developers are too stupid to consider restricting mouse control to non-competitive modes like SP, co-op; and having mouse only lobbies.
At least Move support should give you near mouse-like aiming precision and speed. That'd likely be as far as developers/publishers are willing to go on matter IMO.

Queue, you'll probably get used to the controller pretty soon. The only thing you might want to stay away from (at least for the time being) is competitive multiplayer FPSes, because you might get annoyed that you can't play as well as on the PC. I'd never buy an Unreal Tournament or similar game for a console. But for single player FPSes and co-op, the controller is just fine once you get used to it. I'd also stay away from RTS games on the 360 (not that there are many), but other genres like fighting and racing actually play better on a gamepad. I don't own a console, but after spending a weekend at a friend's house and getting some 360 time in, I liked it a lot better than I had expected. Recommended games: Limbo, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Red Dead Redemption, Gears of War 2.

Unless you're playing an FPS(hint: this is why you shouldn't have picked 360) I can't understand why you'd hate the pad.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but... this.

YES! I'm a traitor!!! I'm gonna sell America to the Russkies (see how old I am), burn my copies of Leisure Suit Larry, and diddle Lady Liberty. :p
Red Dead Redemption is the main reason I'm crossing over. Plus, and it pains me to say it, it seems that more and more games of any interest are coming out for consoles over PC--and understandably so since it's so easy to pirate PC games the moment they hit the streets--and I can anticipate a day when PC gaming comes to an end.
As for updating my PC... It boils down to practicality and cost. The system that I consider mine exclusively (that I use for writing, gaming, my music, my videos, etc) does what I want it do, and does it very well. I can play all the PC games I currently have, and still love, listen to my music, watch my videos, write my angry letters to the government, all that without a hitch. It fulfills my needs without having to buy a new system that, face it, would cost a substantial amount of money to be worth a damn. An XBox, on the other hand, only costs a couple hundred bucks and will do what I want it to do--allow me to play newer games.
Plus, I currently own 11 computers. Eleven! I use this one for this, this one for that, and so on and so on (Examples: I have an old 286 I've rigged up to do nothing but run a GWBasic program to operate the misting system for a propagation bed. There's an old dell running Win98 that does nothing but operate the thermal label maker for pot labels. Things like that.). I simply don't need another computer.
So, it looks like I'm going to have to try to get used to the controller. But, I don't plan on doing any multiplayer stuff, so maybe it won't be so bad trying to learn how to use it.

I could have seen someone saying that 5-7 years ago, right now PC gaming has it pretty good imho. The vast majority of console exclusives that have come out recently have been total rubbish, though.

I bet you a PC version of RDR would've announced shortly after the final wave of DLC was released for the game, which is looking to be relatively soon. Rockstar usually port their key titles to PC.

And I anticipate a day that George Harrison and John Lennon will rise from the grave for a Beatles reunion tour. It's not going to happen, mate.

To be fair, their PC ports have of late been a bit disastrous.

There are many other uses for consoles a well Queue. My PS3 is for games, serving video to the big screen from my PC, playing dvd/bluray and watching BBC iplayer and soon 4OD. I don't use it for music serving because the interface sucks and I haven't found any 5.1 speakers at a reasonable price yet. When Quriosity rolls out I may need to find some speakers though (wish they'd just do a fortify app).
I don't think of consoles as PC gaming replacements though. Sure there are console exclusives I want but there are also some games that I'd just rather play on the console or on the big screen - and others that I'd only want on PC.
Get one just for the choice.
