The first one burnt out, but I still have the others and continue to use one them in another systems. My GeForce FX-5700, which I had just bought the year before replacing it, wasn't able to play Blood Money (thus the fourth card) regardless of available drivers and tweaks at the time, and is sitting around in a box.
Unfortunately, buying the fairly low budget stuff can end up costing more in the end due to the shear number of times you have to keep replacing the "inexpensive" items.
Like I said, it's an excellent system that does what I want. I don't see the point in replacing it just to play games, when I can cheaply do that with a console.

Granted, but I'd say it's a matter of degree. I mean, that Athlon of mine is more than enough to keep up with pretty much everything I've thrown at it, especially when coupled with an ATi 4870. That 4870 in turn should last me at least a couple of years more as it was close to (but comfortably less expensive than) top of the range when I bought it. So I would suggest that it's a matter of knowing what parts you can skimp on and what you can't.
Point taken and well made in your last paragraph though. Having said that, while I do enjoy my PS3 it's still not my primary gaming system.

Only if you're interested in multiplayer, right? Which I'm not.
Nope. Plenty of games on XBLA, PSN, WiiWare, Virtual Console, not to mention patches, DLC, etc. etc. etc. Do your reading comprehension homework.
Do your math homework too: I'd say, all in all, the $800 PC we bought in 2006 has cost
maaaaaybe another $300, but that's because
I know how to fucking shop. You do not and will not
ever need the latest-and-greatest video card- there are no games that require it which are worth playing. I bought my Geforce 8800GT well after the 9 series were out. As a consequence, I shaved off $200 or so from the original asking price. And the 8800GT is still doing quite well- it's a big black monster cock that assfucks whatever I want it to, though Fallout 3 on max puts up a fight and screams 'no stop I'm only 13!" so I have to turn things down a bit, but who gives a fuck. Your argument that having to spend money repeatedly on "inexpensive" parts is dumb because you really don't need to upgrade that often. If your cards burn out that's because you're a 'tard and don't blast the dust out of your case every so often. (I'm a 'tard too, though, but my point still stands.)
Not to mention your logic is hilariously flawed. You bought an $800 computer in 2002. You're complaining that in the intervening 8 years you've spent an additional $1700. OVER EIGHT YEARS. I could understand if you'd spent that money over, say, a couple years, but once again you didn't do your math homework and are using the dumb "wahhhh my ancient technology costs too much to maintain" argument instead of fucking shutting up and just buying a new $800 PC that will blow the old one out of the water even without any upgrades.
But ultimately the issue is this: you're saying you don't want to upgrade your PC or get a new one because you can get what you want out of a console, except in your first post you bitch about consoles and you're acting like PC gaming is dead because you can't be fucked to get something better than Pentium 2. So either just stop playing games, or fuck off back to CommChat. Actually do both.

That was exactly the argument I gave my wife back in 2002.
He's such an angry thing. God I wanna hug him.
Wasn't I originally asking if the mouse/keyboard thingy worked? Now I'm confused.

I get angry when people are stupid.
Guess why I'm angry right now.
