I realise this is off topic but that picture is hilarious, I had not seen that one before. :cheeky:

yes, scouting orb was another 'innovation' in T2 along with lack of atmosphere and crappy level design.

:cheeky: I for one, love this statement!!

Actually, I think T2 had a lot of good atmosphere and arguably superior level design to that of either T1 or T3. And this is coming from someone who liked T1 best out of the three.

I think it's time to drive all of our own opinions and arguments ad nauseam absurdum. :joke:

What, you don't think that has already happened? ;)

if I get a scouting orb in my inventory I immediately drop it out...I never pick them up in game...I used to do that with flash bombs too very early on as I thought they just lit up and blinded guards...then I realised that undead just love them!
there was 1 fm called Hedgerows and Hammerites and it was full of scouting orbs but I never thought to pick them up,as I never use them...it turned out to be a fundamental of the game...meh we live and learn:rolleyes:

Every part of it that could be reasonably described as "technobabble".
I did get some stuff wrong. But every statement has a specific meaning. None of it is 'technobabble'. And I'm pretty sure it's almost correct, too.

It would've been cool if it was implemented so that you needed a scouting orb for various story-related things, like to hide it in the main enemy's room to watch for where a hidden switch exists, or find out where in a library the enemy hid a book you need, or to overhear a conversation between two characters, or other effects like that, it would have a more important use.
Then the mission could be set up so that first you actually have to find the scouting orb and then leave it in the correct place to continue.
Or even better, if the scouting orb could be hidden on a guard's person, then as the guard walks around the player sees everything that the guard sees it.

I completely agree.

That would have been excellent! It would have been like a reverse pocket-picking - a pocket-
planting! :D And a great way to thoroughly scout out a high-security area without endangering yourself - perhaps even see inside a room that was so secure you
couldn't possibly have infiltrated it yourself. It's a real shame this wasn't done. Of course, I can't really conceive of how Garrett would actually attach a scouting orb to someone's person, and do so inconspicuously at that, and without the person ever noticing the extra bulk/weight later. But I do like the concept itself.
