My turn to pimp a game - picked up
(http://www.dontstarvegame.com/) Don't Starve two weeks ago off Steam, addiction set in, and I've clocked some serious hours since (50, to be exact). It's a survival game in the truest sense where the only goal is to see how many days you can last. Some features:
* You start with absolutely nothing, and need to locate and collect resources quickly to stay alive.
* Food is obviously key, there are dozens of ways to find/make food. Gathering/farming/hunting/fishing/cooking are all available. All food spoils over time at various rates.
* Day/night cycles - About half to 3/4 of the day is in daylight, where you're free to move around the world. Dusk then leads to night, and if you don' have some form of light then...well, bad things will happen.
* Sanity - Speaking of bad things, all sort of crazy hallucinations (and worse) start occurring if you don't properly maintain your sanity level.
* Seasons - Winter will eventually hit, which you need to be prepared for with warm clothes and extra firewood and you'll need to find food alternatives.
* Monsters will occasionally attack in waves, forcing you to be on your toes and prepared at all times.
* Permadeath.
* There is also an adventure mode than can be accessed from the default sandbox mode, which you can try out without affecting your current game.
This is the kind of game I've been looking for for a while now - I've played other survival games, but this one is the best so far, and really scratches that itch (at least until some of the survival zombie games in the work are released). Checkitout...

So how exactly does one maintain their sanity level?

By inventing things. I believe there's at least one food that increases it as well.
I like this game but I find it too easy to be engaging. Maybe I just haven't played one character long enough.

I made it to day 30/40 and decided to take on a spider queen with a spear :nono:
For sanity, pick flowers, make a garland or top hat to buff sanity regen and I think it slows reduction.
