And it hasn't personally made anything noteworthy since Final Doom that I've played.
Which they didn't make.

What the hell. Why would you want Doom to be like System Shock? Doom was great on its own by its own merits. Not to say that Doom 3 wasn`t a good game, I totally loved it (being a System Shock fan) but it sure wasn`t "Doom".
That said new games done in the traditional Doom style practically never happen anymore.
If you want more System Shock, than a proper System Shock 3 is the one to wish for :).
And if you`ve not had the chance to play Doom64 TC for Doom2, then I HIGHLY recommend it. Its one of the best TCs for Doom I`ve ever played. And thats saying alot considering the quality of some of the Doom TCs over the years.

Wiki lists them as a developer, but you're right- I was actually thinking of Ultimate Doom. :D
Edit: Does the Doom 64 Doom 2 wad play in Doomsday?

Ironically, if John Carmack hadn't fagged up Tom Hall's vision Doom would be pretty much a System Shock before System Shock was even out.
[edit] And if he hadn't fagged up John Romero's vision Quake 1 would be a very different game as well. Why do you think Romero and Hall left?
As to the Absolution, you need a vanilla doom2.wad to play, but (
http://www.doom2.net/~doomdepot/) the mod itself comes prepackaged with its own version of Doomsday.

I`ve got to admit that I`ve often wondered what Quake would have been like if it stuck to its rpg origins. Retro Gamer magazine did an interview with Romero inregards to Quake a few months ago, and Romero sure is NOT one happy camper where that game is concerned.
And I dont blame him at all for leaving over it. If I had worked my ass off developing a game up, only for someone to come along at the last minute and turn it into something else entirely, would have pissed me right off.

quake an rpg ?
I didn't know that. does anybody have a link to the interview or early concepts ?
(btw, i can see that dethtoll posting after me but wanted to remind you that he is on my ignore list so don't expect any answers or follow-ups to his comments. therefore some of my posts can look out of context if you take dethtoll's comments into account. maybe I even repeat things he asked or clarified. just that others know, i already thought of including my ignore list in my signature to make this more clear)

Blog posts explain much - for example the fact that anyone who has a blog is not worth listening to.
