If Doom 3 had just the simple little change of dropping monster closets or monsters teleporting in out of nowhere, with nothing else changed, it would've been far better.
It would've been practically empty. :p
...I got so
used to it after a while. Hear a sound, turn around, blast the guy behind you (you
knew there'd be at least one), run back and take cover, then blast the nasties that had popped out in front of you. It was fun in a twitch-fest sort of way...

If Doom 4 is a first person survival horror (what Doom 3 tried and failed at) I will consider playing it. Otherwise not interested.
The original Doom gameplay was entertaining when I was 11. It's not so fun anymore.

Damn. You need to go back and play Doom 1/2 again. Gameplay still kicks ass even today. Even more so in the newer wads that get released for it (for the newer sourceports) monthly. Some damn fine levels out there.
Even playing the original Doom 1/2 levels through Doomsday or zdoom is really fun.

I second the motion. Does anyone remember the early Doom 3 footage that showed it as a survival horror game? Man, I'd kill for a link to that. It showed things like zombies that just keep getting back up (although the video didn't show it, I read you could actually stand on a downed zombie to keep it pinned), hiding in the shadows from a hellknight, and ultimately getting eaten by said hellknight after it killed the player.

That was from the infamous E3 Doom 3 alpha demo. It was leaked after E3 2002 but has somehow vanished almost completely from all torrent etc sites. A shame really as I would like to give it a try again :erg:.
Alpha demo also had sounds made by Trent Reznor which were superior to the release version. I wonder why iD left all those great demo features and went for typical FPS way.

As someone who spent like 3 weeks doing just that less than a month ago, I have to agree. That said, I'd rather Doom 4 not be like them.

RE: The teleporting monsters. What didn't make sense is that even after the player arrived in hell, they still kept teleporting in. (The last sentence = bad grammar, I know.)

I actually found it more believeable in hell, since the laws of logic would apply less down there.

I believe she means that monsters teleported to earth from hell. so when in hell they should arrive by bus or something.
same goes for protoss warp technology. i suppose their destroyed, zerg infested homeworld could keep supporting a steady stream of buildings, troops and vehicles.
warp field stabilized.

I understand that. But that thats not to say the creatures in hell itself wouldn`t have teleportation abilities.
