Hey Again, Another noobie question. Sorry about having soo many posts. So . Ive inserted a door into my 'level' and the handle points downwards. How can i fix this ? Havining it point down like this just looks wrong as i can never remember seeing a door whose handle points down like this. Well maybe a Latch handle but this is not like that !
Anyway, today im trying to learn all about doors :D Ive managed to insert a door, Rotate it into position, and flip it 180 degrees so i can open it to the left or too the right but i dont know how to access its properties which is my second question! How do i access the properties of objects like a door ? Is it the Object Hierarchy option in the Edit menu ? If it is , then is that what I use to manipulate the angle the door handle rests at in the clossed position ? and if so what property am i looking for and how do i alter it ?
Is there any topic or procedure in referance to how dromed actually operates that has any bearing on door handles im not aware of ? 0_0 Sorry if im asking so many stupid question's but i dont wish to go any further untill i master doors. It makes my Note book easier to read and possiabally compile into some form of manual, if i cover one topic at a time. Thanks again guys for all your assistance.

To acess the properties of the door. Hilight the door. The object will be identified lower center of the dromed window. Click on properties. Looking at the om handles, they should point towards the floor if they are unlocked. If you run into a lock problem including door handles you can use this command in the command window. fix_my_locks

It may not be realistic but that's how doors are set up in Thief. Down: Unlocked, Up: Locked. I do remember a lot of doors in Thief 1 always having their handles up unless the player unlocked or picked them.

For all objects, the hierarchy is just a list of archetypes, so you edit the object in the hierarchy if you want to edit all instances of that object. For the properties of a specific object, select it in the 2D view and the Properties button will be at the bottom of the window under the object's name and ID.
To change door rotation you can rotate by 180 or edit the properties. Edit Door > Rotating and change the Angle and Clockwise checkbox. If angle is 90 change it to 270, and vice versa. When you change the angle, check or uncheck the clockwise box.

OK So, just to be clear, in Drom Ed door Handles WILL point to the floor if the door is unlocked as a sort of graphical reminder to the level designer if the door is locked or not ?
What did you mean to say when you typed 'om handles' ?
Also I can see the Properties button now you mention it :D Doh. I had failed to grasp that while i recognised that selecting different brushes updated the coordinates that selecting an object may alter the options available. I just didnt see the properties option at the bottom of the screen there. I was looking through the Menu bar at the top :/
I still find the properties a bit daunting however. While I understand the Tree Srtructure and to a degree the Child Parent relationship I dont I dont understand the format of the values nor the True False statements.
Could you enlighten me on this subject also please.

Just out of curiosity, have you followed any tutorials yet? Komag's or nicked's or anything?

I would recommend it if you haven't. Many of the questions you're asking here will be answered if you go through a tutorial or two, and probably all of the rest can be found by searching instead of posting new threads for every question.

Also, the fact you didn't realize this was standard door handle behavior makes me wonder if you've actually played much Thief. Nothing wrong with that, just wondering.

Im confused. I just checked and the handles in game poke out horizontally from the side of the door. If you were too look down from above the door handle would look like a capital L but in the editor if you look don from above all you would see is a lower case l . Thats not a very clear explanation but in the editor the handles point down and in game the point to the hinge. But i understand now that in the editor this is just to represent that they are in an unlocked state.
