Didn't see this thread yet so thought I'd bring it up.
So Tim Schafer and his team over at Double Fine decided that it was time for another classic Point-and-Click Adventure game.
However, Publishers seem to avoid Adventure games like the plague nowadays, so funding is hard to come by. So Tim Schafer had an idea: Ask the fans for money.
Thus the (
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/66710809/double-fine-adventure) Kickstarter page was put up. With a goal of $400,000, they'd have enough to produce something that might get tagged as a masterpiece, like Grim Fandango and Monkey Island. But to their surprise, that $400K was reached in just under 8 hours. A day or so has gone by, and they are now at $1.6 million! 0_0
So, whose excited? whose pledging and how much? What do you hope for in this game?
Me, I'm pledging the standard $15 atm. I hope to see a 3D world, even if its low quality. Think RealMyst. I like the concept of a world with First Person/Third Person Real time navigation, but still has the gameplay of a point click.

It's not just Tim Schafer, Ron Gilbert is tagging along as well. It's like a big Lucasarts 90's revival over there.
Personally, I'm hoping for a proper oldschool 2D adventure game with hand painted backgrounds, a'la Monkey Island 2. 3D is all well and good, but the Monkey Island remakes have whetted my appetite for high res 2D, and I want more.
Also, I'd prefer if they start fresh with a new series, rather than revisit an old one. Though, admittedly, I wouldn't complain too much if they somehow managed to land the rights to Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, or Maniac Mansion.

IF Obsidian start a crowd funding campaign for an isometric RPG, then I'll donate a decent amount of monies within my means to that.
Outside of Police Quest, P&C Adventure games weren't part of my childhood, so I couldn't care less about the subject of this thread.

In before people accusing Tim Schafer of being the antichrist (or did they all leave?).
Donated my $30 early on. Can't wait.

You can still play them, you know, and although some have dated graphics they can still be quite enjoyable. Some (such as Monkey Island 1 and 2) even have updated graphics and music these days.
Anyway, donated $15 towards this. It'll be interesting to see what the final figure ends up being.

Just because he's a massive fucking douchebag doesn't mean I didn't buy Costume Quest.

I haven't pledged anything yet (currently broke) but next week I'll be throwing in my $30. If that pledge video is anything to go by, the documentary will be worth it by itself.
I'm hoping for a classic 2D adventure game with a new IP, which will probably be what we get because:
a) 2D would seem to be what they had in mind as the original budget was $300,000. I doubt that the increased funds would mean a drastic change of plan, rather an increase in quality.
b) I bet Schafer and Gilbert have a ton of original adventure game ideas they've been mulling over these last 10 or so years and paying for a licence of an old IP would be a waste of money.

I'm donating my bit towards the project in March. The folks behind Monkey Island, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, and Psychonauts* making an adventure game? In 2012? I guess the world IS going to end this year.
Pony up all your monies, people. It's not like you'll need it anyway, and I want to play this game before the impending apocalypse swallows up our souls and leaves nowt but piles of dusty bones rattling in its wake.
deth: I'm not even asking. You probably hate him because he looks like Whedon. WELL IT'S NOT HIS FAULT
*Imma let you finish, Eva, but if you haven't played Psychonauts, or worse yet, didn't like it, please hand in your gaming credentials at the fucking door. And enjoy your goddamn apocalypse. :thumb:

It's because of some, admittedly daft, comments Schafer made regarding consoles and PCs when promoting Brutal Legend. However, it's equally daft to extrapolate form a single gaffe that Schafer is a 'massive fucking douchebag' but, hey, it's dethtoll.

That he looks like Whedon is just another reason to hate him. :)
But I'm never going to buy Brutal Legend, and his bullshit isn't even the primary reason.
