They seem to have gone waay overboard with restricting features in the demo. Would it have really hurt to let us use the inventory screen, or at least see how it worked? Seems like marketing decided they couldn't possibly give any portion of their game away without removing most of the features. Either that, or the stuff they nerfed wasn't implemented/tested properly yet. Whatever the case, it seems to have left us thinking that the demo was crap.

This was my guess. Whatever the case, the demo destroyed any interest I had in the game.

Most likely that it wasn't all finished or tuned yet, locking down a demo happens quite early before it goes out.

Ha, totally waiting for Wynne to come in here for damage control. Under the guise of a 'concerned long-time member' of course.;)
Oh, I'm not terribly concerned about elitist fuckwits, actually. Your wait is over.

*sigh* Gunsmoke wasn't being serious. Learn how to take a joke.
(
http://social.bioware.com/page/da2-patches) Hi-res texture pack
To get the full benefit, use of the DX11 renderer is required. So XP running cave dwellers are largely up shit creek then.
Quote:
Just to clarify that you do NOT need to have a DX11 capable GPU to use the high resolution textures. To get the full benefit you need to run the game using the DirectX 11 renderer, which is backwards compatible with DX10. So even if you have a DX10 GPU (and Windows Vista SP2 or Windows 7) you'll still be able to run the game using the DirectX 11 renderer.
If you can only play using the DirectX 9 renderer you'll still get a small benefit out of the texture pack. In particular certain character textures will look nicer, but most of the benefits on the environments don't apply to DX9. The reason for this is technical, and it has to do with the maximum texture sizes allowed by the DX9 vs DX11 APIs.
...
Even if you have less than 1 gig of vram, by all means go ahead and experiment with the download. At worst case the game will run very slowly when hi-res textures are enabled, but if that happens it's easy to turn the hi-res textures off from the video options menu. The amount of the slowdown could vary depending on where you are in the game and how much memory exactly you have.
We've added the 1GB as a guideline so people know what kind of hardware will support this glitch free, but if you're willing to get some performance impact you should still download the texture pack and experiment with it.

You can keep calling us cave dwellers, and we'll keep not being irritating, dickless snobs.

I bought DA2 because it's going to be the key part of my most singular dissertation on the gradual evolution of RPGs from stat-based tactical number crunch-fests into 3D versions of Gauntlet.
That high-res texture pack does actually improve some things quite a bit. It's nice to see some extra eye candy that leverages the PC's capabilities, even though I'm not really a fan of the hybrid high fantasy/Gears of War bastard spawn that is the art style and palette evident in the opening hour.

I dunno why Bioware doesn't just bring Infocomics back, since that's basically the direction they seem to be going in now. Why even make fucking games at this point, they could just make DVDs where you choose whether the main character is male/female, a douche/not a douche, and pick which NPC they fuck then have everything sequenced with real footage.

Well, so far it's not terrible. There are some parallels between this and Mass Effect 2, but the RPG portion hasn't been gutted as thoroughly as ME2 did.
The lack of the way overhead tactical camera is bullshit though. Targeting area effect spells is a royal pain in the ass. I've also not seen any spell combos - one or two synergies between classes, but no Oil Slick/Fireball and so forth.
Much easier though. Kind of odd really - Dragon Age was pretty squarely targeted at the hardcore RPG fan. DA2 isn't, and it's really not enough of an action game to be targeting the Witcher or any other actual action RPG. I'm not entirely sure who they are targeting with this game.
That said, at least the character cast so far is proving interesting. Taken a liking to the lying dwarven thief, who's actually quite a bit of fun, and the socially clueless elven mage.
