How about this:
nobody gives a flying fuck about DAO story
but the game is fucking repetitive and boring beyond belief

So you're saying it's the Koki of RPGs? Possibly.
:p

Not good looking enough

My favourite RPG is the gothic series and Risen, gothic 2 was my favourite rpg game i have played so far, the witcher 1 was nice but with a dull gameplay sometimes, obvious cloned buildings, and a long stay in some areas with constant loadings to transverse from one place to another, witcher 2 is by far much better than the first one although its feels like the witcher is glued to the ground since you can´t jump, bethesda elder scrolls rpg games are good but very repetitive and annoying after many hours of gameplay with too many cloned areas, two world 2 is also good, a bit similiar to elder scrolls but worst, so if there´s some company in my opinion that does know how to do a well balanced rpg of High Quality is Pyranha Bytes studios.

I agree, cardia. Gothic and Gothic 2 (with or without the add-on) are the greatest RPGs I have ever played with Risen continuing the tradition. Shame that tradition is growing a tad long-in-the-tooth. I expect Risen 2 to be gobbled up by me, but I have to admit a lack of excitement due to the 'I have played this game several times before' similarity of the P.B. developed titles. I am anxious to see them FULLY dedicate to bringing their winning style into the next gen era to see what they can do. Sink or swim...

Gunsmoke - I've yet to play much of Gothic 2 or Risen. If I could only play one , which should I play and why? I own Risen, but not G2, but I suspect it is cheap enough to get.
gunsmoke on 16/2/2012 at 16:05
PC I assume? Man, Gothic 2 is just aces. The vanilla game is the one to play first, as the add-on Night of the Raven virtually doubles the challenge level. Risen is very familiar to classic Gothic fans, but the controls and the game itself is a bit more accessible. Gothic 1 is not necessary to play first, they catch you up rather quickly in 2, and Risen has nothing to do with either if story/continuity is important to you.

PC yes. I probably only have time to play either Risen or Gothic. If they're nearly as good as each other, then I'll take Risen if it has easier controls as I do remember the time I played G2 for about 3 hours ages ago being somewhat steep in terms of learning curve. If G2 is *that much* better though, do say. Also, while it's not HUGELY important, I do value graphical quality in terms of immersion in these games so if the chasm between G2 and Risen is huge, then it may factor.

Since you're online now...Yeah, the graphics are familiar in Risen, but much more 'modern'. I personally had a blast in Risen. The difficulty doesn't spike ridiculously and is fairly 'pick up and play' where the Gothic games' learning curves are brick walls.

Cool. Cheers for the advice. I'd cope with the learning curve if the pay off was loads better, but if they're on a par with each other, then I'll take the slightly more accessible one, simply in the interests of time.
