I HIGHLY doubt that playing Risen prior to playing Gothic will lessen your enjoyment of the latter at all. It is pretty much mandatory to read a FAQ either before or during the first chapter of Gothic 2 (or at the very least, ask a ton of questions on a forum that is frequented by seasoned Gothic vets).

That said, whatever the game you decide to go with feel free to ask away either in a thread or via PM to me personally. I am actually considering replaying either Gothic 2 or Risen so whichever you go with, I will fire that one up and play along with ya' to keep my memories fresh and my help as rock solid as possible. I know there are a couple of us who know Gothic series inside out, and at least a dozen here who know Risen equally well.
