I downloaded Dread from Thief The Circle 2 times and still the same problem. I start in a room with 1 door out. As soon as I start through the door, It kicks me out to darkloader screen. Any suggestions?

Does this happen with other fm's or just this one?
If it's just this one then it could be a faulty zip file. It only takes 1 corrupt file to cock it up for you. Or the author could have missed something out by mistake.
Have a look at the cheap fm's site and d/l it from there:D

No only this one. I have 96 total missions and none have this problem.

Get it from (
http://thief1.math.uh.edu/thief/missions/) Here then, It could be a faulty zip file. Or email the author. A few kind words and he'll soon sort you out:thumb:
BTW It's for Thief Gold

I've been having some technical problems with this mission as well. When I start the mission, I'm very slowly drifting to the right, and my movement keys (forwards, backwards, strafe left and right) don't work. I managed to get to the scroll (by slowly drifting to the right, and turning), and when I read it, my forwards and backwards keys began to work again, but not the strafe keys. The health shields and light gem are also rather small.
I'm using T:TDP with the Gold patch, and other Gold missions work fine.

Ive had this problem too. Get the TG patch. Its a problem with the difference between TG and T:TDP.

Even though I already had the TG patch, I re-downloaded it and reinstalled it. The problem persists. Is there another possible solution?

it has been noted by me in the past that a few people could not play the fm. it worked for me and my beta testers at the time. i have no idea what is causing the prob. there isnt anything in the first few rooms that would cause a video card to freeze, i just dont have a clue. sorry :(
the drifting player.....thats a new one to me. the light gem thing happened not on purpose( i think i mentioned it in the readme file that something got screwed while i was playing oblivion and made my light gem smaller) hence the need for dark.cfg. the level wont work without the one that came with the zip.
only thing i can think of is maybe try jumping through the first doorway, or if you can lean forward and grab the scroll maybe things will start working ok like they did for whairst.

While jumping UP works, jumping in other directions doesn't until I get the scroll, and then only forward and backward jumping (and walking) work. Strafing (and strafe-jumping) do NOT recover.
Even with these problems, I managed to get to the area with the zombies. There's a locked grate on the floor and an unopenable door up a ladder. Now what?
