Climb the ladder and
look at the ceiling above the platform at the top. :)
I've finally managed to finish Dread. The problem continued throughout the mission - no strafing. When I had already cleared the building, went back for the skull, and was heading out, my computer locked up. (It only locks up while playing Thief. I'm neither exaggerating nor kidding. Only Thief. Apparently Win2k doesn't like, ah, "creative acquisition".)
I tried using both versions of the dark.cfg file, and this apparently has nothing to do with the problem. It had no effect.
When I reloaded, I couldn't move again, and viewing the scroll didn't work. I tried restarting to get the scroll to see if it would work then (keeping my save, that is). I couldn't move, and this time it DIDN'T drift. What I did discover is that repeatedly tapping the movement keys (including strafe) would sometimes move in the appropriate direction a TINY LITTLE BIT at a time. But holding them down would only move the one little baby step.
I did discover that the joystick could be used for movement, and this actually worked. (Try running around, steering with the mouse and moving with the joystick.) I managed to complete the level.
I don't need support for this level - I've already finished it - but I thought that having this information might help troubleshoot the mission. Holding down movement keys doesn't work right, but rapidly tapping them will allow movement, albeit very slowly and unreliably.
Thanks for the help and level!

I'm dredging up this old thread just for fun. I was wondering about the creepy music and the background noise that repeats the word die, over and over. I would love to use that in one of my fan missions someday. Where can I find it?

It's included in the zip file, Mx. Just open it up with Winzip and extract it.

Thanks again metal dawn. :thumb: Found it.

Wow, Dread has such a creepy and out-of-this-world atmosphere. Especially in the cave with the voice saying 'Die... die... I was wondering the big house at the end has fire, water and earth mages but no air? Also i picked up a pair of eyeglasses which i've never seem before in a T1 FM, perhaps one of the first examples of a custom object? or maybe just a seldom used object?
In the room with the broken floorboards, what on earth possessed you to create a very long stone column, a rump and then expect the player to run up the rump and jump across to that tiny column?! I was very surprised to find out it actually works and is quite reproduceable, must have taken you ages to perfect that like stunt. But very memorable. :cheeky:
In the caves area, thank god for the well designed areas with shadow so i could avoid the zombies In a way i felt it was a shame that the FM wasn't more creepy and undead. When i got to the caves i was expecting to meet some stiff undead resistance like with undead hammer guards and then a big evil boss who i expected had killed the workers. It's still a good FM, but i've never found the mages to be much of a scare and how exactly do those guards get to work there?! ;)
A very good FM amievil?!

I finally got around to play this oldie - it´s weird. :p
I have found the golden skull and the fire talisman (that was a cool place the mages had!) and I have enough loot, but I need help finding what triggers the 'Find out what happened to the workers' objective. I have found more than one readable that is about this, but the objective has not checked yet.

You have to find this room
