seems to be a lot of GTA + "whatever" ideas up in this.
I understand this, though. Whatever you think of
GTA as a game, in terms of presenting you with a cohesive, believable world Rockstar is second to none IMO. When I look at the recent Other Places videos, I can't help but think how cool it'd be to inhabit a world with that level of 'realness', except it's steampunk/cyberpunk/postapocalyptic/Old West etc.

And this one, for good measure:

Totally agree, just commenting on how much influence GTA has had.

I've been thinking recently that I would love a large scale war game, possibly sci-fi, which has you trying to take control of a planet, either between 2 factions, or with some kind of other species. To my mind, the game would be split between a kind of Settlers / Banished style base and resource management with research and development of new tech for both economical and military advancement. Combat would happen procedurally based on the goings on of the opposing faction, maybe with some different event types rather than just simple "enemy is trying to kill your guys" type affairs. Now for the bit I really want the most. The combat happens in the actual places on the planet, no arenas etc... and is turn-based with realistic damage to environment, buildings etc.. a la Silent Storm and damage to soldiers is realistic too. I.e. if someone gets shot in the arm, that person can not fight for the remainder of combat, is out of action for a long time and may have permanent stat loss / perk denial etc... (yeah, naturally I want RPG-like progression for the troops) and soldiers can be killed in one shot etc... armour can mitigate this slightly, but only if it is done realistically. To avoid this leading to super impossible gameplay, there should be a good system for falling back if your force gets too badly hammered and then calling in reinforcements from e.g. the next planet over, allowing you to regroup, albeit with greener soldiers etc...

I'd like a Farscape-like space opera RPG where you carry out a series of missions that get you into increasingly worse situations. The missions would be organised into small mini-arcs, where at the end of the arc you'd find yourself worse off than you started. Money and equipment (gadgets) from last mission would carry over to the next one (with a shop in between to trade your gear) and key decisions made in previous missions would influence how some situations play out.
An example of how an arc might play out, inspired by the show...
Bank heist:
first mission -- figure out how to rob the bank, gather intel
(shop decisions: spend money on intel to make things easier next mission or save it for equipment)
second mission -- get what's needed for the job and put together a crew
(shop decisions: spend money on gear or keep some for unexpected bribes)
third mission -- rob the bank, get busted, escape with a price on your head

I'd like a film noir heist game done in the style of the original Thief. Perhaps playing as a member of a Dishonored-esque secret group that spends the first 2/3 of the game building up to a complicated heist that goes to hell and then all kinds of crazy, supernatural shit starts happening as you discover the truth about the people you were working with.

Some others that spring to mind:
* A proper 2D or 2.5D sequel to Castlevania: Symphony of The Night.
If you haven't played the handheld Castlevanias I highly recommend them. Aria of Sorrow for the GBA Is great and IMO close to SotN in quality. I've heard the DS Castlevania's are even better.

Geralt isn't nearly bisexual enough for Oglaf.

Ivan would be the obvious choice for a main character. Almost too perfect even.
What I'd want to keep from TW3 are the general mechanics, gameplay and dynamics between characters and quests.
