I'd love to play a Legend of Zelda: LttP roguelike. Think Nethack with brogue style item progression.
The main dungeon would be a general challenge whereas the branches and temples would have specific strengths and weaknesses, making them significantly harder or easier with certain items. Metroid style item progression would unlock areas as you gain the abilities like flight, digging, invisibility, magical_breathing, telepathy, see_invisible, teleport_control, and resistances.
There could also be a dark world / light world mechanic introduced in mid game to access the end game temples or usable as an escape from dangerous monsters.
