What...in...the...hell....
Quote:
from RawStory: Fox News host Megyn Kelly on Wednesday assured children viewing her program that both Jesus Christ and Santa Claus were white men even though some liberals were trying to make them black.
In a column for Slate earlier this week, Aisha Harris wrote that she had always been confused as a child because the Santa in her home had brown skin like her, but the Santa in malls and on television was always white.
So Harris made the case “that America abandon Santa-as-fat-old-white-man” and adopt a penguin in his place.
“For one thing, making Santa Claus an animal rather than an old white male could spare millions of nonwhite kids the insecurity and shame that I remember from childhood,” she wrote.
But on Wednesday, Kelly decided that Harris had gone “off the rails” with her column.
“For all you kids watching at home, Santa just is white,” Kelly said. “But this person is just arguing that maybe we should also have a black Santa. But Santa is what he is.”
(i.e. 'Rest assured all the little children of America, Santa is not a nigger, like the President, who's breaking into your home--and he, unlike a priest, most likely won't rape you.')
“Just because it makes you feel uncomfortable doesn't mean it has to change, you know?” she added. “I mean, Jesus was a white man too. He was a historical figure, that's a verifiable fact, as is Santa — I just want the kids watching to know that.”
(i.e. 'Like five-year-olds, we here at Fox News believe in Santa Clause. He's a fact.')
Yes, folks from around the world, this is not a joke. It's truly the "news" from a "nation-wide news source" here in the United States, and many Americans agree with this.
Here's a video of this groundbreaking debate:

Please, someone, show some mercy and bomb us.

Well I agree that it's kind of silly to change Santa because someone was upset about his race.
Jesus being a white man, and that being verifiable though? Ha ha ha ha.

You're missing the point Nuff. He's white to white people, but it's not the same everywhere. I don't think that merits him being replaced with a penguin, but it does make the idea that Santa (a fictional character) just IS white, pretty risible and a little culturally aggressive. Saint Nick is a symbol - he can be used in any way people see fit. Much like any folk legend.
If Jesus really existed (and I'd say there's a fair chance he did), unless he and/or his progenitors had migrated a long way, I'd say there is a fair chance he'd be of middle eastern extraction.

Well you might not believe what Jesus did, but saying he didn't exist is a bit far fetched. There is plenty of evidence that he existed.
I like Santa, I wouldn't change it, but if people want to rapresent it as black or chinese, I wouldn't mind. Surely St. Nicholas won't take offence:angel:

I never said anything about him existing or not.
Though if you can find some historical evidence of him I'd love to see it.

Please, name one bit of evidence that you are personally aware of. Just one.

Josephus contemporaneously & indepedently verifies him, aside from the fact that what we call the gospels now came from disparate & earlier sources that shouldn't be discounted a priori. As for his race, geneticists are apparently saying the least divergent strain from 1st Century Palestinian Jews are today Yemeni Jews which are rather dark.
As for Santa, they first have to clarify which one they refer to, since the modern mythos conflates a lot of sources. Whether they're all white is an empirical question I don't care enough to bother with. In the Victorian era, where we get most modern tropes of "Christmas" that we know today, he was apparently a small elf, so not even human much less a white one.
As for the issue of races coopting figures to their own race, meh, for mythic figures it's as good as any other, for historical ones it's enough to show evidence as far as we know & it's still not a big deal.
All this is assuming it's even worthwhile responding to a Fox report, which I don't it is. But for you all it's at least something to chat about.

Does somebody actually have the authority to change Santa into a penguin? Is there a Bureau of Santa Claus? Last I checked (i never have) Santa was a tradition, not a law, or a trademark. If Coke wanted to put black santa on their cans, it's not going to change 95% of shopping malls that hire white santa. And if.. "they" (who are "they"?) want to change santa into a penguin... does that mean its going to be mandatory for everybody to switch from milk and cookies to raw fish platters on Christmas Eve?
WTF. I'd like to see anybody on any position in the debate try to "change" anything. People who want to use Santa at Christmas can do so, Malls usually do because it brings people out for pictures, then they shop or think about shopping.
Nobody is going to go to a mall to have their kids in a picture with a penguin mascot. I'd love to see "them" "pass" this.. er.. law? .. and then try to enforce it. It would be like outlawing or mandating reading your kids bedtime stories.

Santa is not a penguin. Penguins come from the Antarctic region, near the South Pole. He's fat, lives around the Arctic, and has whiskers. He's a walrus.
Jesus was a fish-man (often mistranslated as "fisher of men"), which is another term for a Deep One. He was the son of Cthulhu!

Regarding the whole "did Jesus exist?" thing, I'd say that the balance of evidence (anyone asking for it just go to wikipedia which has been whittled very hard by referenced consensus) suggest that yes, he probably did. It's just the whole mythology tied to him that is a huge steaming crock of bullshit either invented or converted from other mythologies (Ra, Mithra etc...).
The whole provenance of the Bible is (
http://intentblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/20111220144241_1323535423003.jpg) spurious as shit, so believing any of it which isn't explicitly backed up by other independent sources is just silliness.
