DREAMING Thief ... - by moria

I had a dream once where I guess I was Garrett sneaking through a mechanist type building. I pulled a few really cool moves, but eventually got spotted. I dashed up a ladder to a ledge where I could just get out of the guard's sight. They were shooting arrows at me, but I knew they couldn't follow me up the ladders, so I was just trying to wait for them to calm down and go back to they're patrols.
Every time I peeked to see if they were gone, they'd spot me and go back on alert. I spent the rest of the night like that.:tsktsk:

I'm wondering... how many people have had dreams where they are at their computer playing Thief, and how many have had dreams where they actually are Garrett?
I've had both. I remember in one I was looking at this huge tower in the middle of an ocean. The weather was stormy. I climbed in through the window and had to sneak past revenants (I had just checked out the pic at TDM before sleeping). I remember getting into a kitchen and stealing some silverware before a revenant spotted me! Uh... don't remember much after that.
This next one was just me sitting at my computer in the dream. I was playing T2X, but it was completely different. One of the missions was where Zaya had followed the Smugglers to Sunnyport. All I remember is that the Smugglers were supplying the Mechanists with robotic metal parts, and they were also bribing the local City Watch Lieutenant. At the end of the mission you find out that the Mechanists had murdered the Smugglers and the City Watch and were taking over Sunnyport.
I've had dozens more, but it's strange; I can only remember one particular scene from each of them...

... robbed
you burgled the house. Robbing is taking by force. Heh. I'm a taffer who know the law. Ironic, really.
Anyhoo, I remember having a thief dream once, but...

Once I had a dream in which I played T3 long before I actually played it...
Hehe, back when T3 came out my old computer couldn't run it, but I wanted to play it so badly I ended up dreaming about it. Of course my dream was more realistic and there were'nt any load-zones:p

Any hi-res textures in that dream of yours? What about physics and AI? :D

I have had -many- dreams about Thief...
One was about breaking in to some pyramid full of zombies and then finding The Eye in there and coming out. Funny thing was, that the city outside the pyramid was my backyard. And there was a trampoline which had nothing to do with Thief... or my backyard. And it ended up in mission failed-screen.
Many months after this, I made a little mission about it. :p

I've had quite a few dreams about Thief!
Sometimes, I can evoke them by sleeping with my headphones on while still in game. (I often do this anyway when I'm playing a fan mission: If I feel tired, I seek out a warm room in a mansion or church and huddle in the corner while in the real world I will fall sleep next to my computer.) The ambient music continuing to seems to provide almost subliminal cues about my presense in the Thief world. I imagine, this works similiarly to playing ambient, space, or nature CDs to stimulate one's unconscious experiences at night.
Most of the time, I am able to recall at least one dream when I awake in the morning. But I tend not to contemplate them much, unless they're really sensational. In the case of Thief dreams, I only know that they always seem to involve campaigns exploring elaborate mansions and secret gardens under the cloak of complete darkness. It's possible NPCs are present too, but they are apparenly secondary since I can't recollect any specific interactions taking place.
Oddly, the single most vivid memory is that of standing in front of a wooden door at the top of a dimly lit staircase lined by dark-red brick walls. I'm not sure why that circumstance was so significant. But it does shed some light on the fact that my Thief dreams always take place in-game, perceiving the world as if I was Garrett (rather than sitting at the computer).

I just had my first Thief dream last night! I was playing Thief so much lately it didn't really surprise me - I thought it was about time! I don't remember a wholel ot of it... but it took place in my grade school, only it was in the Thief era. Heavy stone walls, stained glass windows, torches, ect. I'm not sure if I was Garrett or if I was myself but I was sneaking around stealing from little kids (horrible, I know). I got trapped in a kennel area full of fogs in dog cages (this is most likely because I work at an animal hospital, since the room actually did look like one of the rooms at my workplace). After a long time I finally got out, continued sneaking around, and got caught. That's all I remember. I wish I could remember more.
