So, I finished my beginner contest mission and for the next one I just wanna go crazy and do some cool stuff with custom resources, so I installed DromEd Deluxe. But I've had some issues with it:
- some of the creatures use attacks with effects that make the game stutter horrendously, and even crash it, for example the trickster's fireballs or the Hammer Robot's bombs
- there are cool robots that kinda work like guards, and they have a Hammerite attack animation in melee - but they hold no weapon, and they do 0 damage as they never seem to hit me
So, are some things in DromEd Deluxe incompatible with NewDark, or are they just not fully functional and have to be edited by the mission designer (like the weapon-less robots)?
It offers a wealth of stuff I'd like to work with, and I guess I could fix some of the not-so-well-working stuff like the robots, if adding weapons is easy enough. But what about the effects that make the game stutter or crash?
What's the best way to work with DeDx? Any feedback from veterans who worked with it before would be very welcome.

I used to use DEDX. It was a great convenience for a newbie that wanted to use a lot of extra content but didn't know how to add it to the gamesys or package it up. If you don't know how to package custom stuff up, you'll have to learn how anyway if you want your released mission to be playable.
There are also technical issues with the DEDX gamesys. Honestly, I wouldn't use it again. I would just take whatever resources you like from it and put in your mission/gamesys the old fashioned way. You can always just copy the settings directly from the dedX gamesys for whichever object you're importing.
Also, at this point much of the content is very low quality in general. I've been better off learning how to make textures myself for my upcoming mission.

JarlFrank: A lot of stuff in DeDx is broken; however, it is not a bad resource base. I ended up fixing some of it for my own use, along with a few extra features (like T1-style random moss propagation). If you look for the gamesys file in Disorientation, it is a version that incorporates a lot of small fixes like that. Others may have done more.

Ah, alright, so the brokenness is inherent to DeDx. Yeah, I noticed that some things seem to be quite low quality, but I like a lot of the things it has - burricks, mages, various monsters and robots that are rather cool (some of which work, some of which don't), and I don't have to implement all the things like voicesets and effects (in the case of mages, especially) myself.
If the DeDx gamesys is that bugged, I guess I could just add the things I like myself, but with some things (again, the mages!) that will probably be difficult. Guess it'll be a good learning experience, though!

It really is best just to take the time and learn how to implement new content into your own gamesys. Along the way you'll really start to understand the inner workings of things with each new thing usually getting easier to understand. If I can figure it out, anybody can!
