Well, with ZB it is more that he has moments when he is not rude, though I can't recall any just now. I don't think he means anything by it. It's just his way. He does mean to help, and often does so. He, well, he's just ZB.

You can use the editor without using all the bots and mech stuff. You can use all the old T1 models if you want. T2's Dromed is more stable if I understand it correctly, so there's really no good reason to not use it.

The only reason I can think of to not use the Thief 2 editor is if you don't have Thief 2. Unless it's Garrett's super-kangaroo ability that's the selling point for you. I'm not sure how to achieve that in T2.
All of the TG textures, models, sounds, etc. can be used in the T2 editor. Combine that with no colored lighting and boom! You get that classic look if that's what you're after.
