I'm replaying Deadly Shadows now (with the awesome Sneaky Upgrade), and have a story-question I can't figure out.
The plot takes off my proper by Keeper Artemus approaching Garrett, telling him - "Steal some shit for us, and we'll let you look at our prophecies!"
And that's it. Garrett grudgingly agrees and goes off in hunt of the chalice and paw.
Why does he care about the prophecies at all? What's in it for him?

What they had prophesied had come right two times before and had major consequences for Garrett, so naturally he would be interested to hear their next prophecy.

exactly
he tried to defy them once
then he tried to ignore them altogether
and then he realised the futility of his actions and just did it

it's not that he really cares about prophecies, it's just that the prophecies seem to care for him.

So what you're saying is that the plot of Deadly Shadows requires the player to be aware of the previous games to make sense?

Not really. To anyone who might play TDS first, it would seem as though Garrett had always cared about the Keepers' prophecies. The fact that he formerly didn't believe in the prophecies never really comes up.

In end of Thief II Garrett is interesting to know more about propheties, when Artemus say that propheties talk about some others things.
