Seriously, get the fuck out with your tinfoil hat anti-DRM bullshit. I'm opposed to copy protection as much as the next guy, but there's a point where you either deal with fucking reality or go live in a goddamn forest with Linus Torvalds and get over yourself.

What made the FPSs of that era any good was the open-endedness of the levels. Seriously: Blood, DN3D, Doom, Heretic, Quake? They were 80% about the layout of the levels, 20% about the atmosphere through graphics, humour and weapons.
Oh. And I thought it was about
shooting things in 3d ;)
Shame about DNF, didn`t have much hopes for it, but still thought Gearbox is capable of doing a better job than that what you guys say (and it rings true).
Does not bode well for Aliens project...

I wish Gearbox hadn't put their name on the box, since their only role in the development of DNF was getting the game out the door. They didn't design the game or create the content, they took the license, sat a bunch of a people in a room, and said "alright, finish it".

But... It's a shooter! :(
You're right of course and I can't really give a reasonable defense for my still liking* DNF apart from the fact that it still has what
I liked about those old 3D Realms shooters. Contrary to a lot of people it seems, it wasn't really so much the shooting or the more open levels, but the recognizable locations, silly weapons, nonsense interactions and gimmicky set-pieces/puzzles. It's for those reasons that
Shadow Warrior was my favourite and DNF still brings those things to the table.
* I should note that the shooting isn't NO fun at all. I mean, the likes of the shrink-ray and trip mines are still fun to use and the new addition of the rail gun is gorey fun.

i don't get the hate, the game began development when half-life came out, what were you expecting

Be gentle, now. Duke was finished in my living room.

Congrats on shipping the game!
What are Triptych's plans now? Starting work on an original IP project, perhaps?

I'm not usually the one to notice things like that, but holy shit the texture on that machinegun is bad. Deus Ex bad.
