I hope that they slap builds of all of the aborted versions onto a bonus disc or something, now those would be very interesting to see.

That gets brought up all the time at the 3drealms forums and sadly they have pretty much said it's never going to happen. I thought there might have been a chance since they did release Lame Duke, the early version of Duke 3D. Perhaps they'll change their minds and release some stuff later since a bonus disk with all the Duke 4 builds on initial release would almost be the main attraction!

I believe that sort of content will be reserved for the various special editions 3dRealms will release years and years after their main game (if that ever happens). They had that recipe down to perfection with Duke 3d.
