I must admit, what's there looks like fun. I think we'll still see it though.
I bloody hope so! I'll admit that I'm a bit of a Duke fanboy but even I was a little worried, what with the newest teaser and that Jace Hall footage, that perhaps Duke 4 was going to turn out to be a more serious, grounded affair in the modern HL2/COD FPS vein. This new stuff that is popping up now shows,to me, that it was definitely the same 3d Realms who made that 2001 E3 and they were making a Duke with the same tongue-in-cheek attitude, gonzo set-pieces and throw away details that where always it's strengths.
The reception to this stuff has been suprisingly positive from what I've seen too. Sure there is still the knee-jerk cynicism that is the internets stock and trade but there is a surprising amount of "You know what, even though it looks a bit old and it's nothing new, it still looks like a fun game". So I guess there is still very much a market for a over-the-top FPS with a mouthy protagonist should someone pick this up.

I think it's that it has way more flare than Daikatana, or looks like it. That's the bottom bar; if that gets a chance so does delayed game X.

After beating his own videogame while having sex with the Holsom Twins, Duke must play his part in a talk show at his own Lady Killer Casino until the power goes out. Investigating the power disturbance, Duke acquires a jetpack from a young fan and jetpacks up an elevator shaft. At the top, Duke sees an Alien Mothership in the Vegas sky hovering over the Lady Killer. Duke quickly locates his throne, riding it down to the secret Duke Cave hidden in the middle of the huge casino.
Why don't more games start this way?

Because the general masses are too thick to understand even the most obvious satire, in all honesty.

Because they don't bet on Duke. :( That's like the best opening to a game ever written. I almost want to be a teenager again.

Ummm, the most obvious satire is the kind that the masses understand best. See-- Epic Movie, Date Movie, Meet the Spartans, etc.

Yup, that's the spirit. There's a huge gap in current FPS fodder, and Duke seems to be the only hero in town that's up to the job.
Also, the more I see of it, the more I really, really fucking hope someone hoists GeorgeB off his giant back end and back to work. Or that he returns his (

Those movies barely qualify as satire per se, they barely even make fun of their respective genres. Most of those movies just redo scenes from those movies with new actors and add absurdities and lazy jokes - not the same thing as intelligently mocking the cliches and inherent problems with the source material.
I'm afraid EvaUnit may be on to something: true satire is by definition subtle and/or under the radar, and that might just be asking too much of dumbed down American culture.

By (
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/satire) definition, satire doesn't have to be making fun of a genre or mocking clichés and source defects. It could simply be, for example, a movie poking fun at other movies by parodying them, which is what Epic Movie does (I haven't seen the others).

It's hard to blame the public for Duke Nuke'em For-Never's demise. We never really got a fair crack at it.
