I think it was Eva who pushed the idea of GoW being a satire(and also the concept that GoW is gay while Vaan is just body-conscious).

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it's about time everyone know the truth: Duke 3D is a horrible game, it was *never* any good, and the only reason you ever liked it was because you were 12, and it had tits. There is nothing anyone can do to "ruin" Duke, *especially* not putting it on consoles, because the average "dumb" console game is still smarter than Duke ever was.
You're wrong! Now do I have to break out a car analogy to prove it or are you just going take my word for it? :p

Nah, that was all Aja, look through his posting history. You might be confusing the time I took the piss out of him.
Many people regard GoW as latently homoerotic, like Top Gun. It's a pretty popular opinion on the net.
Also, who the fuck is Vaan?

I tried getting into Duke 3D some years back but didn't like it at all. Either I have bad taste in games or the nostalgia is a huge part of liking it still today.

If you're going to play Shadow Warrior, be sure and check out the port to Windows by ProASM. ((
www.proasm.com)). It is great! They have a high-resolution package for it, and it supports loading custom maps right in the game. It runs great in Linux with wine too.
There were also two expansions released for free for SW, Twin Dragon being my favorite. The levels are so varied: a dam, a forest, sewers, cities, etc. It is the definition of a great level pack: you never feel like you're running through the same environments over and over again. That is what completely killed Quake 2 single-player for me. It was all bland and looked the same.

A bit off track, but did you guys like Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project?
...throwback to an old timey sidescroller, complete with all of Duke's cheesiness and penchant for mayhem, I was in heaven!

Never played it. It is another one of those games I'll eventually get around to playing.
