Why do that, when you can release the game with "console" textures and majority of people won't care at all?

Seriously though, why can't they just produce high-resolution textures and then scale them down for the console? Heck, we Dark Mod players can do this exact thing if we have crappy hardware.
SHUT. THE. FUCK. UP. Jesus man...quit comparing every single goddamn game to The Dark Mod. WE GET IT.

Okay, since you don't want me comparing DNF to TDM...
Quake 3 can do it
UT2004 can do it
I think even some "professional gamers" play with r_picmip 10 to make everything stand out.

Actually, that's a valid complaint. But mostly, thanks to your one-note serial whinger from hell internet persona, all that comes across is that you're one of the most annoyingly repetitive and content-less posters I've ever seen here, and that's something considering we already have Koki and mothra.

Oh BURN

I wonder how good the music in this game will be? DN3D had some great music, like "Lunar Reactor", Dark Side, Toxic Dump, and the transit level. Obviously it won't be midi or MOD format, but a lot of games' soundtracks went down hill when they switched to pre-recorded music. UT2004, DX:IW, and Unreal 2 I'm looking at you!
Does Bobby Prince still do this stuff? Whatever happened to Lee Jackson? He made some good tunes too.
Quake II... now THAT is how you do a "CD audio" soundtrack for an action-packed FPS game!
june gloom on 30/1/2011 at 01:31
My god you are behind the times. A full, level-based score in FPS games like what was in Doom or Duke 3D went the way of the dodo ages ago, starting with Half-Life 1. Most soundtracks in FPS games tend to be incidental these days, and I've no doubt that DNF will follow suit. Just another thing for you to fucking cry about, I guess.
I don't know where Bobby Prince went, probably to jail for massive copyright infringement, but Lee Jackson left 3D Realms long ago to go back to work for the IRS.
"CD audio" what the actual fuck is game music even on CDs as Redbook anymore
lost_soul on 30/1/2011 at 03:19
Well they can always go the whole NOLF route and have dynamic music, but I doubt Duke will spend much time sneaking past aliens. :)

Not even games are on CDs anymore.
Redbook has the edge in sound quality over the lossily compressed audio files, though whether the better quality is perceivable is highly subjective.

Heh, nah... They can just use Ogg Vorbis at a reasonable bit rate like 128 and nobody will notice the artifacts. I don't think you can notice slightly compressed music while tuns of other game sounds are playing: it is usually hard to notice the artifacts even in isolation.
Many games use Ogg Vorbis now for music/sound effects. When I said CD audio, I meant "real recordings" in general and not synths/trackers. I forget who did the Quake 2 soundtrack, but it was excellent.
