Yeah, I just saw that on his "gaming is stupid" blog. It's a gripping read, taut with tension, loaded with insight, and hell bent on exposing the ugly truths of corporate game development.
Yes, my friends, Epic and 3D Realms were no ordinary development houses. Indeed, they were the fucking gaming
mafia. With a penchant for hiring blonde boitoys in loud suits called CliffyBs and grizzled Vice Presidents who preferred to make offers you couldn't refuse from the end of a broken chair leg. Yes.

It's good because it's fiction.

I call bullshit on that story. (The Chair Story)
Anyway, I would LOVE for some red-suited, pussy-fag to come at me w/a goddamn chair leg.

Two things to take away from this:
1. Remember, Max Payne and Prey were published by 3D Realms, not developed by them. Though Prey was originally an in-house game almost a decade ago, it got shipped out to a separate development house to be worked on. Surprise surprise, it actually got FINISHED. So, technically, 3D Realms' only project that was being done completely in-house was DNF. THEY HAD TWELVE YEARS TO WORK ON ONE PROJECT AND COULDN'T FINISH IT. That IS an epic fail. And a shame, because I wanted to play DNF, too.
2. Take-Two now owns the rights, not 3D Realms, so maybe they could put the game into the hands of a development team not only capable of delivering a solid product in a reasonable amount of time, but has also made them plenty of money already and is known to be innovative and creative with gameplay. Sound familiar (*cough cough BIOSHOCK cough cough 2K GAMES cough*)?:cheeky:

Isn't the Rockstar 'familiy' with Take 2? I would think one of them would be the best dev team to pick up DNF should Take 2 be interested in finishing it.

I might even play a DN4 if it were made by someone other than 3DR. ;)

The party never lasts forever.

Bought a 128gig external SSD drive and am copying the game down to it now.
So ... I guess they can go ahead and release that now, right?
Unauthorized, I mean.
It's not doing anybody any good sitting on an external drive, and sound like just the thing an embittered employee could do for some "poetic justice".

T2 only owns the rights to
publish the game, they don't own the game or the IP.

AFAIK the twitter feed hasn't been updated since the news.
A scurrilous rumour that actually lines up nicely to the Twitter feed prior to the meltdown.

The info is supposedly congruent from take2 and former 3dr folks.
3dr needed some cash urgently (seems like they hit some financial problems due to the recession/investments), george picks up the most recent build and goes to the publisher for a demonstration, expecting to get the 5 millions bucks he needs to finish the game.
take 2 asks for some time to think about it. george and scot miller confident about to receive the money for one of the most prominent games of the industry, throw a bbq for the staff.
unfortunately 2-3 days ago t2 contacts them and not only declines to pay but makes an offer nobody had expected. they want to sell back the publishing rights to duke4ever for 30 million bucks. apparently take2 did not believe that 3dr was capable to finish the game and was irritated by the arrogant demeanor of george. since 3dr was already suffering from a lack of liquidity early last month shit hit the fan.
