I hope they've come up with something as funny as the "flame wall" from Rise of the Triad. It unleashed a wide line of flames that turned any players or bad guys into charred skeletons which were still standing, only to collapse a second later with a "deedle-de-de-de" sound.
Sure the trip mines in Duke3D were pretty good. My favorite tactic was to fill an area of the level with pipe bombs and attach a trip mine to the wall so it faced the door. Then when another player opened the door, BOOM! He couldn't even see the laser beams ahead of time! :)
I miss deathmatch games that reward player creativity and the ability to set traps... You don't necessarily have to be the most skilled player if you can set traps for the other players.

I'm with dethy on this one. That article is retarded. I'll bet the reviewer never even played Duke3D.
I'll bet none of the people working on the game ever played Duke3D.

I'm fairly sure Randy Pitchford has...

So you like being ass-raped over and over again with hardly any means to defend yourself?
Hey, if I buy the game I'll probably still check it out, that's the real test.

when it comes to old-school deathmatch there are only two options:
1) stop sucking
2) get out
you'll notice
whining isn't in that list
LOL, THIS!!!
And yeah, it ain't easy. Life ain't easy. Practice up, sNeako. I made it through Quake 3, I'll make it through DukeMatch.

Best way to get better at deathmatch without public humiliation is to grab Unreal Tournament or Quake 3 and play against some bots that are significantly above your skill level. Yeah it's not the same because skilled bots are essentially just like cheating people online, but it'll improve your aim and get you into good habits.

Definitely go for UT. The Q3A bots are like an interactive tape recording, repeating the same exact paths through the map over and over again. UT also has an awesome soundtrack, where as Q3's is very bland and forgettable.
On a really positive note, it looks like (
http://osdir.com/ml/wine-bugs/2009-10/msg02491.html) Bug 6971 was actually recently FIXED!
This bug has been around probably since dinosaurs roamed the earth, and it made pretty much all Unreal-2 engine games unplayable. That meant it would have made DNF unplayable, but apparently someone finally fixed it!

lost_soul, are you actually going to play DNF? It uses Steam.
