the demo looked pretty bad lets be honest.. and it's 3DRealms' version of duke it's not mangled by Gearbox all they did was polish it up a bit and do the ports.

It would make it easier to map out controls for a console though, not needing to have all those buttons dedicated for the various weapons.
Half-Life 2. 'Nuff said.
Bah, I missed that there was another page. My bad.

Well I never was expecting "The Best FPS Ever" (which 3DRealms constantly claimed DNF would be). I'm just expecting a decent game that gives *something* to the fans of the original, like Doom 3 did. Sure, Doom 3 wasn't exactly like the first two games, but it wasn't a generic war clone game either with limited equipment and such.
With Duke, I expect a product that looks significantly better than DN3D (duh!), but also carries on the innovative features like usable cameras, air ducts, a bit of non-linear level design, easy user content generation, etc.
Yes, DN3D had some non-linear aspects. Just look at E1L1, where you can go in the front door, or through the back door. I could give examples for pretty much every map. The game had excellent level design, with secrets hidden everywhere and locations that felt like they could actually exist. I expect to see this in DNF.

haha
air ducts = innovative?
hahaha

So what FPS's had air ducts before DN3D?
I'd say the entire setting was very innovative. At least for me, until that point all FPS's I'd played had taken place in spacestations and gothic castles. So a FPS set in the real world, with interactable everyday items was pretty mindblowing.

Name an fps before DN3d that had airducts. GAMECHANGER!
edit: oh henke, you ninja you

dear lord you guys can't read
it doesn't matter who did air ducts first
what matters is whether air ducts are innovative at all
(hint: they're not)

System Shock.
Okay, it's bending the term slightly, as SS1 isn't quite a traditional FPS, but still, close enough.
