Tribes 2 faked a "walk forever" type of thing by simply mirroring the (still large) environment at the edges, and again, and again... I tried it. You can run straight for 2+ hours without ever running into an "edge of the world" type thing. On the other hand, you probably also never "wrap around" and arrive at the point you started at again, which would happen if you did it on a real planet.

Yes, Magic Carpet had a world that you could 'go around'. Technically it was a square multiplied at the edges, but it worked quite well in the game. Populous: The Beginning uses the same trick.
Then there are the cylinder worlds of the Civ series.
As for a true globe, I don't think I have encountered a game that uses one, but I don't doubt there are a few out there.

Hm, weren't you able to zoom out and see the actual sphere in Populus [and possibly Black&White]? I seem to remember something like that...

Beat me to it. When you write a number and then add units to it, any exponential stuff done to the units has no effect on the number. Thus you can have stuff like 10 m*kg/s[sup]2[/sup] which can only be interpretted as "1 kilogram being moved at 10 metres every second per every second" (and slight derivations in the numerical value such as "2 kilogram being moved at 5 metres every second per every second") and nothing else. If it were say 10[sup]2[sup] m*kg/s it would be "1 kilogram being moved at 100 metres per ever second".

The world maps in both FFVII and FFVIII could be traveled entirely around and end up on the other side, though this had the interesting effect of the "North Crater" being oddly close to the southern tropical islands in FFVII when you traveled from the top of the map and suddenly appeared at the bottom. In VIII they acutally had a sperical globe map to be traveled around, so instead of going from one side of the minimap to the other, it would show where you were and the globe would rotate as you moved. (I don't know if these really count in context, but they use globular worlds. The earlier FF games did too, but not being 3d that wasn't too hard).

Sounds reasonable. My apologies to David et al :)

Nor is FFVII&FFVIII...
The topic changed to 'What game has globes?', I think... :sly:
