Dumbing down for consoles... grrr... - by Raj

And in other news today, top researchers part of a long-term fellowship program at MIT have issued a press release with regards to their latest theory that water may, in fact, be wet. You really don't want to start a similar thread in GenGaming.
Also, with regards to profitability, the corporate standpoint isn't to just turn
a profit, but to maximise it. Pointing to the commercial success of PC-exclusive games like Thief 1 (you said you believe so, I'll just roll with that) or Deus Ex ((
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1845710#post1845710) confirmed) is of little relevance at this time, since they were in the time of a market with the PC as its prime platform, which is no longer the case. PC-exclusive AAA titles are most definitely doable, but most publishers and developers aren't willing to opt out of the massive console market, especially in the face of ever-increasing dev budgets. Thief 4 and Deus Ex 3 will almost certainly also be on at least one of the two target consoles. The compromises that are sure to be entailed are with regards to controls and moddability. Other major shortcomings, though, aren't inherent to the console system and they may or may not be part of the package.

I already think they are going the entire wrong way with the whole "modernization" thing. The middle age thing was essential and totally COOL!!
Um, where did you get this idea? I thought it was still only a rumor. If it's not, someone point me to the article please.

"Modernization?" Wasn't that a few years ago?

What do you mean? He's referring to changing thief 4 from medeival to "modern." Or were you referring to Ion Storm's old modern thief concept?
RavynousHunter on 6/10/2009 at 03:58
Ion Storm's old idea.

The Ex-CEO of old Eidos's mention about how "the Medieval thing's run its course" BS.
sNeaksieGarrett on 6/10/2009 at 21:15
Yeah, but Eidos Montreal hasn't said that, have they? I was just trying to determine if Raj was making that up.

I wish I could say more right now but I'd be flogged if I did.

Apart from that, would we like it? :p
