Lightly flogged or heavily flogged?
These things make a difference. ;)

Trapped in a small room with a plague of Flogbeasts.
René, caught in the middle. He'll be torn apart!
I wonder if he's getting arduous duty pay for having to deal with this every week for years...:o

Just to make this clear: By "it" I was referring to the message, not to the flogging. I don't want to be responsible for injured game studio members.

Unfortunately, the console market is the lion's share. So it stands to reason that we'll have a "dumb-downed" Thief 4 as they will be aiming for that market share.
Not only that, but also the game development becomes more and more expensive, so the devs have to cater to the tastes and needs of larger and larger crowd.

Apart from that, would we like it? :p
I hope so!

QFT.
the above also prevents games nowadays for reaching truly great heights imo. they become mostly generic without any "character" (apart from maybe a distinctive visual design), mostly without replay value or longetivity in mind apart from sustaining some free promo by the fans until the next sequel gets released. the amount of time they spend on visualy polishing their games will e.g. prevent them most of the time to put in many features and no room for error/experimentation, at least this is my observation. games nowadays feel clinical, an exercise in style over substance and machine-like commercial precision in grabbing your attention with ..... well, not much afai am concerned. I still enjoy games and play many of them but there was a time when games were more than just "fun", nowadays even horror game developers talk about "the game must be fun, blahblahblah". there are a few exceptions and I hope EM proves to be one of them. I think they know that the franchise (Thief/DeusEx) is a well recognized brand but the target audience for it was not especially big, not by today's standards.
So either they adjusted their budget to this (which I hope) and try to cater to a niche/special audience as opposed to just abusing the name for a better and quicker recognition of their game.

Is it really accurate to say that most PC games are dumbed down compared to their console counterparts right now?
I mean, I have a reasonably powerful gaming PC, but it has nowhere near the processing power of an Xbox 360 - with its three separate on-board processors or what have you. Honestly, I think it's the expense of having to upgrade your computer to remain 'top-of-the-line' that's dumbing PC gaming down, if anything.

It's the mainstream consumerists who not only settle for dumb, but beg for it, that's the cause. It used to be tech, now it's ingrained in the buyer expectation.

Console aside, one thing that is worrying me right now is if the required specs for the PC version, assuming there is a PC version, will be too much for someone like me (who doesn't run out and buy the latest update because I HAVE TO HAVE IT OR I'LL DIE!) and is still running on a single core AMD Athlon at less than 2 gig. (Or, worse yet, require a stupid Internet Connection just to install to damned thing. Whatever happened to just installing a game and playing it?!) Lately, the vast majority of PC games I've been having to give a miss (and will gladly go without, to be honest) because my machine won't run them, or they require an Internet Connection.
I assume that there are a lot of Thief fans out there, like me, who don't have the latest and greatest (and can't honestly afford to buy such), and might not find it worth the money to purchase the new Thief if the specs are too outrageous--or can't be "tuned down" per se.
Then again, we are probably in such a minority--who cares. Right?
