(

Seems like a very odd choice. Then again, maybe they are the ones to turn a hack-n-slash-heavy, story-light RPG into a hack-n-slash-heavy, story-heavy one.
But please, please, please, Obsidian, some QA this time! As much as I'm enjoying Alpha Protocol right now, you can tell it ain't the smoothest of engines. :(

Squeenix and Obsidian working on Dungeon Siege under the aegis of Chris Taylor?
Very odd seems a fair assessment.
Was kind of hoping for Baldur's Gate: Marketing Suffective despite 4ed, Sword Coast and Atari/ Hasbro troubles.

Wait, when did Square Enix get the rights for Dungeon Siege, anyway? I know Take-Two got the rights from Microsoft when they made Dungeon Siege Two, but clearly I missed the second transfer.

Maybe Gas Powered Games have owned the DS IP all along? Supreme Commander seems to support that theory. First game was published by Microsoft Game Studios, the stand-alone expansion was put out by THQ (whom also re-issued SupCom vanilla) and finally SqueEnix published SupCom 2.

I don't understand your reactions. why do you guys think this is bad news ?

It's not bad news, just... odd.
So far as I am aware GPG have owned Dungeon Siege all along, they've only ever licensed the publishing/ distribution rights.

No one said bad. Everyone said weird.
And they're right, it's pretty bizarre.

I see. I think it presents a unique opportunity though. We might get the two Chrises (Avellone plus Taylor) working on the same game, and bring their individual strengths. That can't be a bad thing.
DS 2 has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. I enjoyed it far more than all my failed attempts to play Diablo 2 the so-called king of action rpg's for more than a few minutes.

There is a moment where you stop looking like an optimist and start looking like an idiot.
It is now.
