I would but I never did the DF 2010 so I know nothing about hospitals and shit.

You have to craft splints, crutches and a traction table but once you've done that, you're good. If you take the gypsum powder and some other shit on embark its even easier. Just plonk that shit in a room and call it a hospital.
Military and burrows were the big improvement in 2010. It isn't like hell to put soldiers on alert and keep civilians safe anymore
Cmon we need more names. Don't be afraid to dip your bits into the DF pot!

I wish I had the time, I'd like to familiarize myself with the newest ver. I might have time in late July, I'll report in when I know fo' sho'.

Tentatively pop me down for it, but I'm drastically bad at keeping track of what year it is. And in the game.
How do you feel about contributors using various things such as depot deconstructs, mist generators, decontamination pools, danger rooms, magma stacks, etc.?
'course, if depot deconstructs are a no-no, I can always fall back on ye olde "Sieze selected" option :)
Vernon on 29/6/2011 at 09:14
Hell, go for it. I think using magma to forge weapons etc. is cool, but making epic magma traps to annihilate invaders en masse is a bit OP so personally, I think that should be off limits.
Danger rooms are cool - the beefier your dwarfs the better the battles.
Decontamination pools? I dunno - I've never really used them but they're not really exploits are they?
Also, we can extend each turn to be more than a year if people feel that would be better. I'm open to all these ideas
edit: I didn't know depot deconstructs were still an option. Wasn't that patched out? Anyway seizing is a bit more fun imho

I will without question be observing this thread with great interest and furious anger for those who poison and destroy my brothers.
Observing, because DF is a fantastic game to be sure, but far too, shall we say, detail-oriented for me to be able to ever make it past the interface and into the touchy and demanding main game.
But I will be watching. And commentating. I hope this takes off, because in spite of my misgivings, DF's framework is ripe as heck for good storytelling.
(I will also be watching the development of Goblin Camp, may it hit beta in a timewise fashion.)
edit: my overall 2 suggestions for an ascension game though: 1) don't wait for permission to get it started and 2) don't rely completely on others to take over the game for you. These sorts of things mostly rely on the juice of the originator over all else to keep going.

Cool. I'm gonna wait a little while before starting this up because I have an exam between now and then. I guess the game will ebb and flow a bit based on whether people have the time to play.
Let me just say though - the point of this is not to beat the game (because you can't). So join in even if you haven't played before. Most of the fun in DF is wrestling with the interface and dying a horrible death.

Yeah, decon pools aren't really exploitative. Thinking of it, there may be a way to combine decon and mist generation. Hmmmm...
I'm currently playing 31.25, and depot deconstructs are still working there. To be honest though, I generally only use them early in the life of a fortress for some quick food and booze.
Mind you, saying that, my latest fortress' entry layer is a sand layer surrounding a volcano, so I was able to set up food and booze production
very quickly.
So site-wise, what are you looking for? Flat or mountainous? Access to flux? Aquifer or no?
And will you be using vanilla DF or the (
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=59026.msg1319616#msg1319616) Lazy Newb Pack?
And if you're using Lazy Newb Pack, while Dwarf Therapist can be considered a given, what limits should be placed on DFHack use?
For example, dfvdig, which automatically digs out a vein once you've found it saves from having to micro-designate each tile of the vein, and isn't
too 'sploity, but would something like dfautodump, which automatically moves all items desigated for dumping to the cursor position, be considered not cricket?
