I'm suprised this discussion hasn't come up yet.
I would be a cool if there was an aug that released little nanobots that swarmed around a given object, picked it up, and redirected it any other given place.
*Imagines a level4 of this aug, picking up a security bot and hurling it at a soldier*
BackDoorBandit on 10/7/2001 at 14:53
LoL...yeah, I see where you're coming from with this one, it would be pretty damn funny alright.
I think another good Aug would be a holographic JC. Of course do this one in the same way that you'd do all the others, levels 1-4. Whenever activated it does a holographic image of JC so that you can trick the enemy, whether for sneaking purposes, or to come up behind them and take them out. Depending on what level it's at, determines how far away from yourself that you can project this image, and how strong of a perception (does this sound right) it puts out so that the enemy can see it from further away and be drawn from further away.

Something like an artificial gravity creator would be nice. Then you could push away bad guys, and pull hard to reach object to you.
A cool one would be the ability to focus electricity on a target, like the spider bots do. Maybe you'd be able to change the settings on the amount of electricity you use, like from "stun" to "charbroil".
These are starting to sound like Force powers. :D

Is this game going to be another star wars clone or is it going deeper in dark side ie. CyberPunk where people hurt each other for bunch of credits. Cyberpunk where cybertech, biotech and nanotech rules beside HIGHbandwith matrix. Cyberpunk where elite corporate rules world behind realwood desk. OR is this game going to next level of evolution where people reach for stars, ie. colonize the world.
I know JCDenton was nanoaugmented, but there is still much in cyberpunk world, where normal people buy their children cyberhand or datajack, and then parents got killed or fired. Next think child found out that he/she are growing street kid whit too small augmentation. Do you see my point?
I really wonder why blackop mercenary missed normal cyber augmentation? Or was it so that MJ-12 budget was so small it didn't have money to install normal datajack and smartgun augmentation in their grunts?
I really liked what Deus Ex was, but I miss so many CPunk features like blackmarket augmentation.
There are so many cyber and bio augmentation what game did miss. Cyberware example:
Wired Reflex, Do want to see world in slow m o t i o n?
Move-by-wire(TM), Or do you wanna move like ballerina during top speeeeeeed?
Softlink, Do wanna buy shooting skill of ultra StreetSam or wanna speak Japanese like your motherlanguage?
Bioware example:
PainEditor(TM), SMACK, SMACK, SMACK... Hey that punk just keep comin' even I hit punk whit my combat ax!
Modified Perfhormones, .. world where your smell is key success of evening. You "smell" can modified to attract/repel female or male or both. Think about it!
I also miss datajack port where normal people could go into cyberhaven inside matrix(tm)=>Think about possibility where PCharacter could go ULTRAMODERN internet also known as Matrix.
Matrix is also possibity where NPC could be Decker/Cyberjockey/Hacker/Driller/Fixer-of-information. Just think about that!

Cyberpunk is not just about "people hurting each other for credits."
It is more about the interaction of humans and technology, and what technology will mean socially and culturally in coming years (now, even) and how it affects what it means to be human. Go (
http://www.cwrl.utexas.edu/~tonya/cyberpunk/papers/serhat1.html) here for a good discussion of the major themes in cyberpunk. Seen that way, Deus Ex was a very cyberpunk game. JC's interactions with the AIs reminded me of Case and Wintermute and Neuromancer in Gibson's
Neuromancer.
Besides, all of the urban blight and crime is there, you're just not a ghetto dweller.
Some of the conventions in cyberpunk games like R.Talsorian's and ICE's Cyberpunk are starting to seem a little dated, not surprising as they are based on early to mid-80s scifi fiction. Just look at how William Gibson's own cyberpunk fiction has shifted, from the Neuromancer trilogy of the 80s (Neuromancer, Count Zero, Mona Lisa Overdrive) to the Virtual Light trilogy of the 90s (Virtual Light, Idoru, and All Tomorrow's Parties). Less gadgets being grafted onto people, more about information and virtuality.
MJ12's peeps weren't anything to sneeze at... I mean the grunts were pretty standard issue, but the commandos in their battlesuits were quite fearsome.

Cyberpunk is not just about "people hurting each other for credits."
That's true, but did you notice topic? DX2 Augs! Did you read my message to development team? There are some more other augmentations than combat augs.
But what you have wrote, to me CP is more darker "near" future where we are going. Did you ever think about how machines are going to change our future, and when those things have been intergrated to humanbody, human comes more machine than human. Did you notice that JC's become more human when more machines has been intergrated into him. FP, I agree DX was very good CP game, but it could be more. It was so obvious to me how AI's was going to interacte whit JC's, did you ever think JC could tell world how corp&gov. AI tried to take over the world!
Felonious Punk! Have you ever read other cyberpunk novels beside what William Gibson has wrote?
Just look at how William Gibson's own cyberpunk fiction has shifted, from the Neuromancer trilogy of the 80s (Neuromancer, Count Zero, Mona Lisa Overdrive) to the Virtual Light trilogy of the 90s (Virtual Light, Idoru, and All Tomorrow's Parties). That is one way to look into CP world, where Gibson has mastered Matrix other writers has shown other side of the coin. CP could be more darker than it is. Common gadgets for common people, matrix hardware for cyberjockeys/deckers, combat cyberware for those people who need those. We have to remember datajack is common piece of cybertech, those parents how buy their children datajack at childs childshood must remember child grow. We also have to remember bioware is today reality, skin and muscles can be grown from common people tissue sample, it cost but it is reality. In cyberpunk reality common cybertech is also available for common people! And what people would not like to be more than he/she is, cyber/bio/nanotech makes people be more than they are. Why woman look they own and other woman tits and than go to plastic surgery? I know there are activist movement where people move pack to nature and other movement what push people more into CP reality. Think about this, Would you like to plug yourself whit your computer if it could be done today? I would if it could enchance my everyday work/life, I also like to take more tech inside me if it could be done. How it could affact me and personality? I would like to say I could become more machine than man.
MJ12's peeps weren't anything to sneeze at... I mean the grunts were pretty standard issue, but the commandos in their battlesuits were quite fearsome.
Yes they was, grunts were more than pretty standard issue, but it could be done otherwise. Commandos was build at from same stuff, commandos got bigger guns and more armor, where was their augmentations. They didn't even use common close combat tactics. I really hope at DX2 dev. team show us more common cybertech than standard corp/gov. stuff. Why didn't that big secret gov. agency didn't enchance their mercenaries for real combat. Where was standard smartgun, were did they use standard headware radio, were they take out lights and use lowlight eyes. Those are pretty common stuff at that level corp/gov. security people, at whole game there was two pretty fearsome gyborgs. They was more machines than people, but also they didn't use kind of smartgun. Think about reality, what other the other possibilities where smartgun could be used!
To put this all into one nutshell, common peoples like to be more than they are and if it possible then they do that!

I'm thinking the nanotech situation in DX simply wasn't researched enough to have all that crazy shit you mentioned, Ctg. JC was the first nanotech agent. This isn't System Shock with Cyber rigs installed for doing deeds, not yet.

Was it or wasn't, think about this, JC was first "official" nanotech agent, JC brother was first "unofficial" nanotech agent, DX "Evil Mastermind" did grown biocultiveted agents in Area 51. Those agents was allmost ready to but fulltime service, do remember how our "Evil Mastermind" was implement backup switch into JC and into his brother. That backup switch triggered after JC deflect to the "other" side . Frozenman do agree this?

What is your argument on that? What DX did tell us background of the DX world?

While I was at E3 I saw them demonstrating the "Blue Shift" mod for Half Life, and one of the things they demonstrated was the slow-motion "bullet-time" mode you could enter. With Max Payne's bullet-time mode being showcased in their game (and the Matrix movie itself), I can't see why Deus Ex 2 shouldn't get a piece of the action! :) They should have an "accellerated awareness" or "heightened reflex" aug that would slow everything down temporarily but use a lot of bioelectric energy (like cloaking does). As long as the new Unreal Warfare engine could handle the skeletal modeling and physics code as (GEEK WARNING) a series of changable delta functions, you could give the game any "speed" you wanted--including varying speeds based on the aug levels.
Can you imagine a "jump-dodge-roll" in slow motion seen through a first-person perspective? Having to shoot as the entire screen does a complete revolution might be really cool...

Yep, sure I can. I can also imagine real smartgun, and how it could be done in this game. Hint. Think, you are standing still and you move (mouse move) gun around in your vision-field. Cross-hair points there where smartgun points. Then, gun is moved outside from this field-of-vision, small screen comes into your HUD and show where your gun really points.
To those who think why include cyber/bio-tech in this game. Think about possibilities how much you could do if you could choose what kind tech is going to integrated whit your PC. This could be also Major/Minor-adventure line in DX2.
1. Major, Helios did download itself into agent, time go on and Helios find out that there is possibility to control JC if cyber/bio-tech is intregrated inside/outside him. It could also be possible that our "Evil-AI" did Lite-version-AI from it's own code and did download itself into JC. Also it could be done, if world did go into somekind medevil state, it's quite short time to come out there because where all this tech and information-behind-it would go? It would take 10-15 years to world be what it was. There is possibility, where new leaders would ban nanotech from common people, and our new "hero" would come in these lines.
2. Minor, sidekick, why not! If nanotech is only for "Agents" then cyber/bio tech could be implement into playable sidekick.
These are just beans what I throw to you, just think about how rich world could introduse to DX2 players.
