I posted this on the Eidos DXMP Forums first, then T-Com, but I left out my friends at TTLG for a day...and gathering info from lots-o-sources is what I like to do when confronted with a flat-out mystery.
Regarding a slew of contacts from people getting errors in DXMP when trying to connect to a server..."EngineVersionMismatch" and "DecoMismatch".
Big increase in the number of people getting these errors in DXMP lately, and after some sniffing around, installations, testing and reinstallations and then threats issued in the correct areas here is what I have found:
What causes these errors is either trying to play Deus Ex Multiplayer on a server that is using a different version of the Patch than You are (in the case of "Engine Mismatch") or incorrectly applying the v1112fm Patch to the Game of the Year version, which is already final-patched and multiplayer ready (DecoMismatch).
The issue is FURTHER CONFUSED at present due to a lack of reliable information about exactly what versions of Deus Ex have been authorised as OEM releases.
If you recently received Deus Ex as part of an incentive with purchase of a sound card or other product, at the moment I am none too sure which version of the game you have received.
It __SHOULD__ be the original v1002f disc. Several people I have tried to solve this issue with have told me that their disc says Game of the Year but that they have v1009f..."impossible" I am told because the GOTY disc was not issued as an OEM and also the v1009f was (I think) a BETA of the multiplayer, before we finalized the patch and released it as v1112fm.
I am continuing to delve into the OEM issue. If you received a Deus Ex Game of the Year Edition disc as an OEM and are experiencing these errors trying to play Multiplayer please contact me at sholbert@eidos.com.
Deus Ex "original flavor" is v1002f.
It can be patched with either the Single Player patch, making it v1014f.
It can be patched with the Multiplayer patched, making it v1112fm.
Deus Ex "Special Limited Edition" is v1003f_OEM5. This is a "Demo" of the first few missions of Deus Ex and comes only ion a jewel case, no box. It is published by Activision. It cannot be Patched, so no multiplayer.
Deus Ex Game of the Year is v1112f.
It is the final version of Deus Ex, contains Multiplayer and the bonus Music CD, which contains many of the strangely addictive background tunes in Deus Ex.
Deus Ex GOTY cannot be patched.
********************************************
What has SOLVED the "DecoMismatch" error here after I duplicated it (installed v1002f and then BETA MP Patch v1009fm, then tried getting into a server hosting v1112fm) was this:
Create a TEST folder on desktop. Put Deus Ex GOTY CD in drive (so far only GOTY has had the DecoMismatch error), Explore the CD>open System>find "SystemFiles.zip" and Copy the SystemFiles.zip to the TEST folder on desktop (right click SystemFiles.zip>drag to TEST folder on desktop>release right mouse button>select Copy Here).
Open the TEST folder and Unzip SystemFiles.zip to the TEST folder. Find the on called "DeusExDeco.u".
Copy "DeusExDeco.u" to the System folder where Deus Ex is installed (usually C:\Deus Ex\System) and say Yes to overwrite the file that is already there.
That allowed me to play MP with GOTY. But should never have been necessary because GOTY is already v1112f.
*********************************************
In the interest of trying to get a solid answer for this problem, please post in this thread if you have been getting the mismatch errors when trying to play Deus Ex Multiplayer.
Or just post here for the heck of it if you have anything to add.
Thanks,
CatsClaw
(Note am currently trying to get ahold of whatever version Deus Ex disc ships with SB Audigy...)

"...also the v1009f was (I think) a BETA of the multiplayer, before we finalized the patch and released it as v1112fm."
I may be able to clear up this part. I can attest positively that v1009(fm?) is a beta of the multiplayer, because I was active in the community when it was released as such. I can also attest that the out-of-the-box-from-the-retail-store GOTY version is v1.112fm but the SDK[\b] that shipped with it is the wrong version - v1009. This might be what some people are looking at, so make sure they are looking at their *game* version, not their *SDK* version, when they report to you.
By the way, I have a message from ISA lying around somewhere that says that the only difference between the 1009 and 1112 versions of the SDK is that 1009 has Italian language by accident - no other differences. So no harm done there, and I personally am having no trouble with using the 1009 SDK with the 1112 game.

Thank you, Immortal One ...that helps.
Still looking into the issue. Keep you all posted.

A slight oops, but I don't know if it's on my part or yours - I should have said 1109, not 1009. I'm always doing that, darn it. My post is correct if you replace all instances of 1009 with 1109.
Did you mean 1009 or 1109?
Sorry about that, Chief.

After a little effort a Patch is available (thanks ION Storm!)for the "Audigy version" of Deus Ex GOTY, which is indeed version 1109f of Deus Ex rather than v1112fm.
If you received Deus Ex GOTY as an OEM bundle with a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy sound card you should download and install the patch from Eidos' web site:
Deus Ex GOTY Audigy Patch
This will update the v1109 version of DX that comes with Audigy cards to the final v1112fm version.
Enjoy.
