Gold-plated stitches?

She only said it was non-urgent surgery which would enable her to live a normal life.
After a bit of reading, I have at least found out that IndieGoGo apparently investigated her claims before starting the fundraiser, so at the least, they are happy that she was genuine.

Yeah you know, today's medical dilemma. We have an awesome job, saving peoples lives, making a better future for many. Oh what is that? You don't have that amount of money, which would save your life (and to us, is an everyday operation). Well sorry bro, were sort of under budget after buying that beach mansion & Ferrari 360.

Don't blame the doctors - if they could, they've overtreat (hospitals get paid only for what they do). It is the insurance companies that do everything they can to avoid paying for treatment. The US is a shining example of how healthcare is not suited to markets. They're ranked number 38 by the WHO despite being the richest nation. Kind of scandalous.

Which is my main beef with obama care - it's great they're making medical insurance more accessible... but said insurance is still pretty shitty for a lot of people :p

Soooo... Indiegogo refunded me my five bucks. I was looking around for info about what happened -- no update from Chloe Sagal herself, apparently -- and someone on IGG's Facebook page pointed me to the gog.com forums. I also found that the original Eurogamer article about the situation (
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-04-09-homesick-dev-chloe-sagal-successfully-crowd-funding-life-saving-operation) has been updated.
(
http://www.gog.com/forum/general/im_homesick_and_heartbroken_giveaway) A few people are definitely crusading for Chloe, myself included, and I'm a little annoyed with Indiegogo. They'd already cleared her of fraud -- they shut her down once, said "nevermind, seems legit," then shut her down again after she met her funding goal? And now they're being vague about why they shut her down, citing a fraud-detecting algorithm, which doesn't make sense. Something doesn't smell right, and it's not Chloe's campaign. Maybe it's my general distrust for authority or secrecy but I strongly suspect IGG caved to haters. I get being skeptical, but some of the (often very misogynist) vitriol thrown her way was downright barbaric.
So Indiegogo doesn't want me to give her my five bucks? Tough shit, Paypal to the rescue.

My gut says Indiegogo has a decent amount of experience with scams, and the fact that they cancelled the campaign after the funding was reaching means they found something significant. The fact that Chloe hasn't made any kind of statement or defended herself doesn't really bode well for her tbh. Just curious, why are you so convinced she's telling the truth?
I have to admit, I saw her video, where her voice is barely audible, and right at the beginning she coughs really loud and clears her throat - it reminded me of a person calling in sick for work who isn't really sick at all. Maybe I'm just a cynic. If I hear 6 months from now that she died, I'm going to feel like complete shit for saying any of this.
june gloom on 11/4/2013 at 04:04
The thing is, she'd been shut down once before and Indiegogo's fraud department had already cleared her and let her start the campaign back up again. Why would they go back on that?

Because new shit has come to light, man!
No, not really, I don't know.

Just for the record, I think it's absolutely fine to be a sceptic about this. Even the sceptics haven't shat on this thread, though, which I'm glad about. It'd have been so easy to go into facile cynicism mode in response to dethtoll's original post, but people haven't done that.
