Also, crowd-sourcing isn't an illegitimate means to pay for anything so long as the crowd knows what they are funding.
I think demagogue's point was that crowd-funding is an illegitimate means of financing healthcare
in the large. Crowdfunding can't scale up to provide the healthcare needs of an entire society. Society should be required to use other means to provide healthcare for it's citizens, and therefore, we should not feel obligated to respond to crowd funding requests such as this.
None of this is meant to deny that crowd funding can work out nicely for a handfull of lucky individuals: congratulations to them, and kudos to those people who donated.
Hopefully I'm not completely misrepresenting demagogue here ...

I'm not sure communism is really the right word to use, in that case. Mass crowdsourcing wouldn't be communism, by any stretch. Not least because communism still (in theory) has some sort of collective mutually agreed distribution system. Crowdsourcing is closer to anarchy, really: a clusterfuck of wholly independent individuals each able to freely decide how (or indeed, whether) their particular 'share' of the combined wealth total is spent.
Nobody is suggesting that crowdsourcing ever be used as a healthcare system, as far as I can tell. Not least because that would be entirely insane. It'd be like some nightmare version of reddit where each upvote means you get your meds for that week. You'd have to be entertaining or noteworthy enough to merit treatment.

So "Chloe" is a man. And "Chloe" isn't even their real name. What a strange end to the drama. Apparently "they" tried to (
http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/1e86xa/indie_game_developer_chloe_sagal_commits_suicide/) kill themselves on a Twitch.tv stream, and now is in the hospital recovering. Don't get me wrong, I do have some empathy here as this person obviously needs some help, but a scam is a scam, and this was an ugly one. Those youtube vids were just so manipulative, I feel almost embarrassed that I felt bad for him/her.

Dude, there aren't a lot of good options I know, but you can't call people who don't have or want a conventional gender 'it', even if they have been acting like twats.

Yeah, re-reading the text, it sounded pretty bad, so I made some edits.
Weird, though, I don't know much about their background, but aren't they fairly well known in the indie dev circles? Wouldn't someone have known about this? I guess the answer is no, but the whole thing just seems odd.

No matter how morally bad the dishonesty seems, the thing to take from it is a cry for help. People in very low situations do fucked up things - those with a normal (give or take) psychological state will view the intent as malevolent, when often it's simply desperate. Even if she's been dishonest, that doesn't mean it should be open season for admonishment. She needs help, one way or another.

For future reference, if Chloe self-identifies as a female then we identify her as a female. That's simple trans* rules.

The fact she turned to internet people for help funding a sex change operation, even indirectly, is proof enough of that. You have to be in dire mental straits to risk doing anything that's bound to bring out the uber conservative gay bashing hatemongers and social justice white knight dweebs in equal measure.
