I've been of two minds about the "people with existing success" using e.g. Kickstarter.
I'm all for the already successful using crowd-sourcing to make something they want to without having to worry about the publishing industry knocking it back as too high risk. I'm all for cutting out publishers altogether and anyone with talent going direct to audience.

Well I did read suggestions along the exact same lines on the first day I read about the fundraiser, so yeah, apparently they did (albeit all unsubstantiated, so I don't actually know if it was based on knowledge, or if it was purely guesswork). Mind you, I still haven't seen anything confirming the situation, and I'm not sure I'd take someone's twitter post as definitive (and it looks like it's been deleted in any case?)
